check alternator and check all the grounds . battery to engine, engine to frame, frame to body. what part of the country do you live and when did this problem start.
well there is no way your motor could be hot as soon as you start the car, is the motor actually running hot, does it ping or knock? can you hear water boiling in the radiator or the resivoir? if not i'd say you just have a bad temp gauge
the throttle may need cleaned as well as pcv system and updated software installed in throttle best to go to volvo if the throttle doesnt respond to new software then a new throttle is needed you cannot go used as the vin of the vehicle is encoded so there will be an issue with communication with all other modules in vehicle
usually if you start to hear a rumble, and by rumble i mean it sounds like a bunch of pieces of metal are clanking around in your exhaust then the catalytic converter needs to be repaired. It could also be the oxygen sensor which is located on top of the converter. Volvo did an interesting job of having them sit on top of each other.
if you could get your hands on a scanner to read some live data it would help your plight,there is a cam position sensor when you take of the the plastic head cover at the timing belt end,did you check plugs,it also might help to clean the maf with some contact spray,sounds like plugs
