Question about 2000 Ford Focus

3 Answers

I have a 2000 Ford Focus SE and yesterday the battery light came on. I took it to Sears Auto and they checked the battery and the alternator and said both were fine, and thought it was probably a wire in the back of the alternator. Told me to take it to the dealer. On my way home, I noticed the heater was working even though it was turned off! I turned it on and off a few times but it kept blowing hot air -- I switched it to air conditioning, and then off, and the light went out. Could this be a sticking thermostat causing the battery light to come on? thanks for your help. carla

Thanks for your response. One more question. If it is a bad relay, would that cause the battery light to come on?

Sounds to me like there is a short in the heater control switch, i would reccomend going to an auto parts store and having them put it on a computer when the light is on.

Just so you know, electrical problems are rather common in cars - I know from experience, sometimes they are not worth the time to track down. Tracking down a short or bad wire / bad electrical part (microchip/computer) in a car can run high repair bills and sometimes not even get the problem actually fixed. EXAMPLE: My family paid $800+ to get the gauge cluster fixed in a 97 dodge grand caravan. After 3 shop visits, 2 different shops, and 2 microchips replaced I just opened the Dash board got to the back of the gauge cluster and carefully bent all the pins away from each other (creating a stronger mechanical electrical connection) that actually fixed the problem NOT the "certified" mechanics.

No even if bad relay dont think so unless was a big draw going to ground

Testimonial: "It just seems so coincidental that both problems occurred at the same time. I will definitely have them check the relay though. Many thanks."

I have a 2000 ford focus se it want stay runnig unless you hold the gas pedal down as soon as you let the gas go it stops running i changed the fuel filter did not help

first of all, if light is on have it scanned for a problem code. if no scanner all auto parts stores will scan for free. there has been over 200 recalls for 2000 ford focus, check with ford to see if this is one of the problems. god bless, this is a long run, but check and see if fuel is getting to fuel pressure regulator.

Have a 2000 Ford focus zts battery light keeps coming on.

This is often mistaken as an alternator or battery problem. If you also are having a problem with the engine idling a bit low (less than 600rpm) when stopped and in Drive without the a/c on, it is likely a throttle body sensor issue. Because the sensor is bad, the engine idles lower than it should and will cause the 'battery light' to come on and go off seemingly randomly.

Changed the battery on Ford Focus 2000 and it started right up once but now won't start....any ideas

It may have not been your battery but instead your alternator, you could probably take it to pep boys or advance auto and they have an alternator machine to check if its good or not.

My ford focus 2000 se is having problems keeping a charge, but I am still able to push start it and it will run until I turn it off.

sounds like a drain such as glove box or trunk light not making contact to fully close the light causing it to stay lit causing a draw or a bad alternator or even a dead cell in the battery

Battery light stays on

the battery light has nothing to do with the battery itself, it is indicating that there is a problem with the alternator that charges the battery, most likely a defective rectifier bridge diode has failed.

Check your battery ground connections. Make sure the vehicle chassis (and alternator) is properly grounded.
Check for any loose connections around the main high current 12V supply fuses.
Check the clicking in the steering column is not a loose supply wire arcing.
