Clacking noise when going up steep hills

What you may be hearing is called "octane ping". It occurs when the engine is under heavy load and the fuel does not have enough octane to efficiently run the engine. Older engines like yours were often run on premium gasoline to avoid this. However, if you do not have the clacking when accelerating on level ground and only have it on the steeper hills, it is not necessary to spend more money for mid-grade of premium fuel. Only if the engine makes the noise under normal operation is this advised. A little octane ping in those situations will not hurt the engine. But, if you need the peace of mind, and to ensure that the clacking IS octane related, I would try one tank of premium and retest the engine of a hill you know causes the problem to see if it goes away.

Nissan Murano sound coming from engine area once engine is warmed up marble in a tin can sound.. only does this sound briefly when taking off from a stop.. after making the sound just briefly then goes...

its called detonation. you must be running regular gas in it. switch to super for few tank fulls. it will stop, but as soon as you put back regular, the noise will come back.nothing that will hurt the car, just annoying sound.

Fuel recommended for Lexus ES 350

92 or 93 octane. In my area of the country we have regular, super and premium thus the 92 or 93 octane fuel is called premium.  I would assume that this grade would be what you are calling super premium.  Basically it is going to take the best quality gas that they sell at the station.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks for the opportunity to help you and thanks for an honest rating.  I hope you continue to use FixYa in the future for all of your automotive questions!

What is this noise? Is this noise clacking the lifters, fuel injec

I would go to an autoparts store, and purchase some Sea Foam. You can put it in your gas and your oil, and it should clear your sound up if its lifters. I used it, and it worked great for the lifters on my Dakota. They will make noise sometimes when its really cold. Try it out. Hope it helps.
