The reminder needs to be set. 1) turn your vehicle off 2) turn the ignition on to just before it starts 3) press on the gas pedal 3 times very quickly. The oil change reminder will blink and shut off, that should reset it.

Check your owners manual for a way to reset the oil light, sometimes techs forget to reset the light. While your at you should check the oil level to make sure its good.

Oil light comes on, but there is enough oil in the car.

Either the oil pressure switch is bad (or its wiring are somehow shorting), or the oil pressure is low. For the later, it could be having an oil pump going bad or a clogged screen at its intake. I wouldn't drive the car until the problem is solved.

How often do you need to change the oil in a 1997 RAV 4?

If you need to ask this question you should consult the service department at a toyota dealership.....
but i will save you the time and them the agony.... maximum i would change any oil in any vehicle is
5000 miles (8000kilometers) but as i say it never hurts to do it early. oil cahnges are cheap in comparision to replacement engines. break-in period of a toyota engine is closer to 20,000miles (32,00kilometers) in that time i would recommend replacing the oil at 100miles, 500miles, 1000miles, 2500miles and 5000miles on the odometer (not between changes).. break-in period is the most critical in an engines life. after that, regular oil changes make the difference between 150,000miles and 500,000 miles.
I got a '97 rav with 282,000miles and it still runs llike a champ. treat it good and it will run forever...

I need to reset the oil change do I do This?

1. Engine off, turn ignition key to RUN - do not start engine - make sure dashboard indicator lights come on

2. Put foot top of accelerator

3. Completely depress and release the accelerator TO THE FLOOR, THREE TIMES in rapid succession, within FIVE SECONDS - press release, press release, press release. Then wait a few seconds and the CHANGE OIL light should usually flash, sometimes accompanied by a few short beeps. Once it flashes it should disappear, and it should be reset.

My 2007 BMW 335i w/ 51k miles on it has had the service engine light on for 2 days now. What does this mean?

Serivce engine light could mean a lot of things from your gas cap is not tight to oil cahnge to spark plugs are dirty. You need to pull the codes to find what is wrong with it.

Ticking, oil light on and wont go off but has oil

This auto is not getting the oil pressure it needs to run without damaging the motor, usually due to a major problem. More info is needed to recommend a fix. I would suggest returning it for a refund and never buy a car that has a "tick" or clunk noise from the engine unless you intend to perform major repairs on it.

Jerking and can't turn off oil cahnge light

hi friend,

1.With the car started (ignition on), set the LCD odometer readout to total mileage (not trip A or B).
2.Turn the car off (ignition key to the OFF position).
3.Push in AND HOLD the button/knob that switches the odometer
4.Turn key to ON position without starting the car. You will notice the maintenance light blink and go out.
5.Release the odometer button/knob.
6.Turn key to OFF position.
7.That's it! The "MAINT REQD" light has been reset to warn you to change your oil in another 5,000 or 7,500 miles or so thank u for using fixya regards, sivaranjini

My 1998 Beetle has a louder pinging now at start up--it's gotten worse. It's from the engine and it rattles. What is this

Most likely loose lifters. Sorry, don't believe there are any adjustments that can be made if this is the case. Remove the cap where you add oil while the car is running. Does the noise get louder the closer you get to the opening ?? If so, that's your problem. The engine could be low on oil, the oil used during previous oil changes has been the wrong viscosity (too thin, etc.), or badly worn if the oil hasn't been maintained properly. If the oil level is adequate and the noise is coming from the lifters about the only thing left to try is adding some engine oil additives to see if it quiets down the pinging.

You may want to try a fresh oil cahnge with the 5W 30 motor oil that's recommended, leave the fill a bit short, and then add an additive to quiet the lifters.

White tail smoke, both temp gauges (oil/engine)

Alright there your on the money there. A4 audi's and The 2liter golfs do haed gaskets at around 145-150,000 miles. the oil's foamy kinda yellowie cream. Tip for ya When you do the head gasket cahnge the rad and water pump at the same time. Mine didthe same it's costly but worth it for piece of mind, Plus is the only time you get to the water pump apart from changing the timing belt.

I have a 1992 toyota camry LE, 4 cyl. and the oil indicator light keeps flickering on and off, what is the problem. I have checked the transmission and the oil levels and they are all okay. Confused as to...

Is it an oil pressure light or an oil change light (check the owners manual) If its an oil change light it may be time to change the oil. If its an oil pressure light you could have a short to ground in the wiring or at the oil pressure sender mounted on the engine. Also are you checking the engine oil with the engine running or off. The transmission is checked with the engine running, engine oil with engine off. If it is low on oil it will intermittently flash. Also when you check the oil wait five to ten minutes after the engine stops to let the oil settle before checking or you may get false readings.

Oil change light coming on

The Patroit uses a combination of engine run time, mileage, and temp to determine when the oils needs to be changed. If you do a lot of idling you could require a change sooner than the 6000 mile interval. If you do get your oil cahnged or do it by yourself, here is the way to reset the oil warning from the owners manual:
