Question about 1988 Ford Mustang
Sounds like you have a body alignment problem. If you have the door open try to lift up on the bottom edge of the door. You should not have much play.
If you do have play you need a door hinge. It is also possible that you hit or were hit in the front and the front fender was slid back towards the door. There are shims in the joints and some of the shims could have moved or fallen out.
This is simple body shop work.
