It is either your thermostat or your head gasket, my guess is that your thermostat is stuck closed and needs to be replaced

Turn your car on and stand outside let it idle for around 5 mins and you should hear your water pump kick in if not it could be your thermostat or possibly it could be that the coolant has frozen if it is just ionised water not coolant(not trying to insult your intelligence but it is a common mistake)

Hi. The contacts in the Coolant bottle get contaminated and then don't pick up the water level. Brige the contacts at the water botlle and start the car, if the coolant/temp light behaves for 5 min or so after starting the car, then change the coolant bottle/resevoir.

My temparature light is on and flashing. . .what

Drive it as little as possible until fixed!!!! It means it is probably getting to hot. You may be low on coolant, or you have a leak of coolant. Or your water pump could be going bad. If you drive it while it is to hot the results could be catostrophic.

yes vw is very dependant on the cooling fan coolant pressure and expecially coolant mixture, check the gasket on the expansionbottle, as that can cause problems too, anyone of these will result in overheating

sound's like the drain for the a/c is plugged and filling up with water. With the a/c on you should see water draining out the bottom near the passenger side. If not try running a coat hanger into the drain and clear it.

Over heating jetta, not the thermostat

a few things to check are : is the electric fan cycleing on and off? is the water pump actually moving water? very common to find the impeller has fallen off the water pump so it will look like it is all ok till pump is removed. if fans are working and it is full of coolant with a known good thermostat then next i would let it cool, then remove coolant temp sender, start car , it should bubble quite a bit of coolant out the sender hole, if it doesn't you have a bad pump.
