Question about 1995 Subaru Impreza

2 Answers

Driving a 1999 Impreza Brighton Wagon, 2.2, non turbo, manual 5-speed. Both rad fans are running most of the time even with A/C and/or defrost off. Replaced 3-pronged sensor for coolant temp.(the one that communicates with the ECU), temp. reading on gauge is perfect, heat is good, no coolant loss, just the fans are running - even at -19 degree clesius. I was thinking of a partially blocked radiator - the car is 11 years old and has gone 277,000 kms?

Mine was doing the same thing. both fans staying on. I found it was a relay stuck in the closed position. You can check it with a meter and a 12 volt source and jumper leads or do what I did. I found it by swapping the fan relays with some others in the fuse box under the hood. I have a forester.

My fans in my 1992 subaru impreza dont turn on how do i fix the problem

The fans are controlled by the ECU, the thermostat and the communication between the two. Most likely scenario is a faulty temp sensor - a switch, that tells the ECU how hot the coolant is - and such a faulty switch will prevent the fans from working correctly. If you turn the A/C on, or switch to defrost, at least one of them should be running all the time. Alos, very important, make sure your coolant level is correct. These sensors only measure temp in liquids, if there is not enough coolant to get a correct flow through the system, the fans will not work properly either.
Hope that helps! Btw: I had the same problem in my 99 Impreza Brighton, turned out to be a faulty temp sensor.

I have a 98 plymouth neon (DHOC) that runs hot.

Take rad cap off when cool & run it for a while with the heater on (not defrost) and top up coolant as needed in rad, about an inch or 2 from top of rad. Let it run until you see rad fan come on & off about 2 or 3 times at operating temperature. Then replace cap, top up return bottle to proper level, and try that. Probably still air in system. If that doesn't cure it, I'd look at faulty or incorrectly installed thermostat, which would be a trip to shop that installed it, if it were me.

New starter on my 2000 Subaru Impreza Outback sport is going out again. I recently bought my impreza. The check engine light came on a few times and 5 days later it would not start, I tapped on the starter...

Sounds like a bad starter. If your car is turbocharged then you might have gotten a starter meant for non-turbo application. Same thing happened to me but I couldnt get the right starter. Heat is the no.1 enemy of cars. Turbos run way hotter than non-turbo. If this is a heat related problem. I would invest in a factory starter from dealership. (worth every penny). Or just simply heat wrap it.
