2006 Dodge Dakota - power outlet doesn't work. The #28 fuse checks fine.

I've used a test light thru the wire insulation

  • grcooper Feb 05, 2010

Thanks, but I've gone beyond that. I have the socket out and confirmed that I have no power at the socket. I removed the fuse and have continuity thru it.

Any issues if I tap into the radio or some other nearby power?

I've disconnected the outlet. There is no power at the wiring feeding the outlet.

Take a 12v test light and wrap the probe with electrical tape, leave about
1/4" exposed. With the key on, ground the test light wire and insert the
probe into the outlet and touch it to the center power contact. If the light
stays out and you have a good ground, you don't have +power at the
outlet. If the fuse is good, you may have a bad wire or socket. But if it
lights up, we go to the next step. Touch the probe to a known +power
source and ground the wire to the metal side in the outlet. If you don't
get light, check the ground for the outlet socket. Repair as needed.
If it lights up, then you know you have power and ground. Check the
plug on the device you're trying to use. I hope I was of some help.
Good luck.

Yes, you can use another power source. The radio will do. The best way to do this, is to wire the

outlet to the battery side of the fuse, and use an in line fuse holder with a fuse that has an amp.

rating equal to the radio fuse. Hope this helps.

Fuse 28 goes to the power outlet then the ground side is located center front of body. Thats my only location description

Also the same ground is used for the heated seats if applicable...

If your heated seats still work then most likely the power outlet failed or the unit your plugging in isn't working.

yes you can hook the power to any other 12v source you want. Just aware that when using both components at the same time that are on that fuse you may pop a fuse

Hi, Is the fuse on this circuit is reading 12 volts to the power outlet? If so, replace the power outlet. I'm assuming you are or hjave used this outlet frequently. They are prone to wear out over time. Thanks.

12 volt in dash power outlet 2001 dodge dakota

The power outlet uses a 20amp fuse marked D in the box near the battery.
The cig lighter uses a 15amp fuse in the inside fuse box.

On my 2006 dodge stratus my cig lighter won't work

Normally this would be in your owners manual.
The power for the outlets may be on the same circuit with the horn.
On some models there is an accessory relay that handles the outlets.
There should be a 20amp fuse in the box in the engine compartment that feeds the circuit. You may have to check all of the 20amp fuses to find it.

How to fix my 2006 stratus aux power outlet

I had a 2001 dodge stratus R/T. My mirror auto dim, digital compass and temp screen, and aux power outlet blew out because I had a power inverter plugged in and tried run something to required to much power. I was just a simple fuse. Go to the fuse box inside the car, not under the hood and check the small diagram on the cover and replace the required fuse. Good Luck.

I own a 2001 dodge dakota 4x4, my brake lights wont work, I have park lights, turn signals, back up lights, even 4 way flashers, I replaced the brake unit on the brake pedal, and checked all fuses, they...

Hi,

When you say you checked the fuse, was this just a visual check....or did you try replacing the fuse the a new one? Sometimes a visual check doesn't show minute breaks in the fuse wire, which gives a false appearance that the fuse is fine.

When the fuse is ok, this problem normally relates to the brake switch (mounted to the brake pedal). When this switch is replaced, you should always use a multimeter and check the switch is operating correctly when touching the brake pedal.

If the switch is ok, then suspect a faulty relay (if applicable to the Dakota).

Cheers,

Look to see if you have a power supply outlet that resembles a cigarette lighter with a cover on it. It should be the power you hook into. If your truck did not come equipt with that then you use the cigarette light witch will not work without the truck on

Trailer lights on 2006 Dodge Dakota will not work

Check the owners manual to locate the proper fuse. It is probably a "max" fuse under the hood and also may have one in dash fuse box. If it is a fuse problem, you will have to find the short in the system. Good luck
