Hope it is the speaker or speaker wires. Wires often short or break where they go to the doors, if there are speakers in the doors. If there are several speakers, try changing the balance in order to isolate them.
But if a speaker wire is shorting, it could cause all speakers to still cut out. Remember speakers also require good ground as well.

I had a 1996 Ram that was doing the same thing,I took the unit out and while still connected to the wires with the key on I checked the diagram with a test light.Towards the plug there was power up to the hole in the center and right in the middle there was a hole in the unit.I put a tiny screwdriver in that hole and turned it a little and the unit started to play and I never had any trouble since.Dont know if it will work for you but it did for me

Power on, clock works, CD works, NO SOUND from the radio

Check the speaker wires maybe they have worked loose. And speakers themselves as they may blown. Do you have an amp if so check its fuse. Also check for inoperative interior lights, lighter, and horn. One of these circuits will power the radio's memory circuit. Some radio models will appear to work normally but have no sound if the memory fuse is blown. The clue is the clock will reset to 12:00 each time you turn on the ignition switch.

Why did my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe sudden lost power while driving?

what happened when you tried jumping the car? sounds like it could be a bad ignition switch since only non-switched things work.

My 2008 Accent radio was working great last week. We had some bad snow this weekend. I went to turn on the radio on Monday and the radio was staticy and sounded like the speaker in the back was not...

Try checking the coax antenna wire coming out of the back of the radio. The antenna wire use to plug in, and I've had problems with them viberating out.

2002 Jeep Liberty radio/clock display not working

If the radio works, but the display doesn't the bulb is burned out, I think removing the radio is necessary to replace it. I would see it as an excellent opportunity to upgrade sound systems and go with an aftermarket unit that will interface with your Ipod.

Electrical problems

I suggest you remove whatever you installed. Obviously your vehicle does not like it being there. If everything returns to normal, then that problem is solved. (otherwise you will need to determine what was damaged) If you need the power source, you can create a new circuit by attaching to the battery itself and using a low draw.switched relay attached to the accessory side of the ignition switch to turn it on and off. It is possible that the problem is unrelated, but since it began when you made the mod, that's where I would look first.

Unstable electrics resulting in various problems.

Sounds like another VW made in Mexico.
Have the ECU checked for shorts, it sounds like it needs replacement.
Also check your vacuum hoses for leaks.
