SOURCE: air filter light on, has new air filter

The issue is not the purge valve. If you have a strong odor of gas, and no fuel leaking under the car, you have one of the evaporative emission hoses compromised. Can you get the car raised on a vehicle hoist? If so, check the lines that run along the side of the car, I will bet that you will find pin-holes in one of the evap lines. Get back to me if you need more info.

SOURCE: 2000 toyota tacoma 2.4l wont start when cold

clogged injectors you need to put cleaner in the fuel to help get dirt and grit out of them some times (every 3 months).
I am assuming you are saying it will turn over but not fire and run when cold?

Early Toyota fuel injection use a cold start injector, it only works when the engine is cold. It is located in the intake manifold. for the mean time you can turn up your idle by turning a flat head screw in your intake manifold counter clock wise . It could be a coolant temp switch for the injector that has gone bad also.

When you say it's destroying the air filter---do you mean it's all sooted up ?? I am assuming that what you mean.
Try disconnecting the vacuum line at the egr valve and see if that helps.
But it sounds more like a plugged up exhaust system.Try disconnecting or looosing the flange before the cataylic convertor and then see how it runs.

Try TPS. Throttle positioning Sensor. This sets base idle. (Unless this model is too old for that sensor)

2003 ford escape , runs fine all week then wont stay runnin g unless you keep giving gas ,

Sounds like a sticking idle air control valve,it's a small cylinder with 2 wires and is mounted on or just behind the throttle body, it has 2 8 mm bolts holding it in ,if it act up again try tapping lightly with screwdriver handle if idle picks up ,it needs to be removed and cleaned or replaced

1992 toyota 22re will start by choking air intake but wont stay running

check that idle solenoid in the base of the carby is working and connected. This shuts of the idle circuit in the carby and prevents run on when the ignition is turned off

2004 Dodge Durango. when started it idles high to 2000 RPMS then when on the road it stays at an rpm, you dont have to push the pedal it just goes by itself.

It sounds like the Idle Air Control Valve is stuck. This will give you a fixed idle it can stick at high idle or low or anywhere in between. If you take off the air cleaner you see where the air is getting sucked into a small slot or hole. spray some carb and choke cleaner in there let it sit for about 5 minutes then start the engine. spray a little at a time with the engine running till the idle comes down by itself. This should take about 2-3 minutes. If it wont come back on its own take the 2 torx screws out and remove it clean with carb and choke cleaner and replace. If it still fails it will need to be replaced. MOST of the time cleaning it will work

1997 ford expedition will start but wont stay running unless you hold your foot on the gas pedal. Replaced mass airflow sensor because that's the code that came up. Doesn't do it all the time.

if code keeps coming up re check sensor and connections and if not done replace air filter ----if good than check fuel prssure sometimes clodding fuel filter can cause same problem and set off sensor
