Question about 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

My 2004 chevy trailblazer won't start. The battery is good and my dash lights turn on. There is no clicking when I turn the key to start it.

    My 2004 chevy trailblazer won't start. I turn the key in the ignition and nothing happens, it doesn't click or anything. All the lights on the dash lightup and everything but the engine doesn't turn at all. Sometimes though the engine does start. If it is the wires to the starter, I also need to know where the starter is located and which wires I need to check. The battery cables are tight and not corroded.

Its possible that you have two problem with the starting system:

1. Starter - Testing
Before removing the starter for repair or replacement, check the condition of all circuit wiring for damage. Inspect all connection to the starter motor, solenoid, ignition switch, and battery, including all ground connections. Clean and tighten all connections as required.Check all switches to determine their condition. Vehicles equipped with manual transmission have a clutch safety switch attached to the clutch pedal bracket which closes when the clutch is depressed. Vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions have a manual interlock in the steering column which does not allow the ignition switch to turn to the start position unless the transmission is in the Park or Neutral position.
Check the battery to ensure that it is fully charged. For more information on battery service, please refer to Section 1 of this manual.
Check the battery cables for excessive resistance as follows:

CAUTION To prevent possible injury from a moving vehicle or operating engine, engage the parking brakes, block the drive wheels, place the manual transmission in Neutral or the automatic transmission in Park, and disconnect the battery feed at the distributor before performing these tests.
Check the voltage drop between the negative battery terminal and the vehicle frame by placing one lead of a voltmeter on the grounded battery post (not the cable clamp) and the other lead on the frame. Turn the ignition key to the START position and note the voltage drop.
Check the voltage drop between the positive battery terminal (not the cable clamp) and the starter terminal stud. Turn the ignition key to the START position and note the voltage drop.
Check the voltage drop between the starter housing and the frame. Turn the ignition key to the START position and note the voltage drop.
If the voltage drop in any of the above is more than 1 volt, there is excessive resistance in the circuit. Clean and retest all cables not within specification. Replace as necessary.
No Load Test
Make the test connections as shown in the illustration. Close the switch and compare the rpm, current and voltage readings with the accompanying specification illustration.
- Current draw and no load speed within specifications indicates normal condition of the starter motor. - Low free speed and high current draw indicates worn bearings, a bent armature shaft, a shorted armature or grounded armature fields - Failure to operate with high current draw indicates a direct ground in the terminal or fields, or frozen bearings.
- Failure to operate with no current draw indicates an open field circuit, open armature coils, broken brush springs, worn brushes or other causes which would prevent good contact between the commutator and the brushes. - A low no load speed and low current draw indicates high internal resistance due to poor connections, defective leads or a dirty commutator. - High free speed and high current draw usually indicate shorted fields or a shorted armature.

2. Solenoid or Relay
Some starters are equipped with replaceable solenoids. In all cases, the starter must first be removed from the vehicle for access.

  1. Remove the starter and place it on a workbench.
  2. Remove the screw and the washer from the motor connector strap terminal.
  3. Remove the two solenoid retaining screws.
  4. Twist the solenoid housing clockwise to remove the flange key from the keyway in the housing and remove.
To install:
  1. Place the return spring on the plunger and place the solenoid body on the drive housing.
  2. Turn solenoid counterclockwise to engage the flange key.
  3. Install the two retaining screws, then install the screw and washer which secures the strap terminal.
  4. Install the starter on the vehicle.

3. Ignition Switch
Check, Test and Removal

In few cases, check the security antitheft system or alarm lock.

First check the ground wire to the battery for a clean & tight connection, then the positive cables as well. That means the cable to the battery, starter, altenator too. All you need to do is to apply light pressure to the connections to see if they are tight. If very well corroded they will need to be cleaned. Corrosion will stop conintuity to the starting system.. If all cables check good you can test the starter by having a short wire jumping it from the solenoid nut which is very small in size to the battery cable attached to the starter. If it does nothing or just clicks the solenoid is shot.

SOURCE: 2007 chevy cobalt ls won't

Ignition relay or fuse could be the problem. When you turn the key to start do you hear a fuel pump kicking on and or do you have spark when you hot wire the starter (I know it's hard to check while trying to start it)? You can email me back and I might be able to pinpoint it more.

2004 chevy trailblazer when I turn on the air con my dash lighs for ABS and Brake come on, my cruise goes off and the air con will not work.


Have you had the vehicle checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ? I would start there first . Battery , charging system all good ? What computer , the ABS has a control module all to it self . The Air con has a relay in the under hood fuse box controlled by the PCM / engine computer . If there is a problem with ABS , The EBCM - electronic brake control module will turn on ABS and the red brake light .
A low voltage condition could cause this problem , but I would expect more of the lights to be lit on the dash . Including the check engine light , battery light . This are not connected , Power or ground wise . Have the vehicle checked for codes , that should be the first place to start any diagnostic's always !

How to unlock my 08 chevy trailblazer, the battery is good but a light comes on the dash with a car symbol and a locked lock on the car and my car wont start (also my radio has been locked too)


check fuses relays and battery --lights going on is not an indication of battery being good --test battery with a meter or try boosting but your problem more than likely is key or ignition switch check --your key if worn or have chip key and chip/battery fail truck will not start if you have the other key try that one or try the relearn for the passlock system the link has information on how to do it

I have a 2004 chevy cavalier and it won't start. Just keeps clicking and won't turn over. I need some help please. Thanks


use test light, connect clip on grnd. , touch tip on the starter wire while turning key , if it lights starter is faulty , no light, solenoid is faulty, if it lights and indicates starter is cause you can try to gently tap starter with plastic handle of screwdriver if tapping gets it moving then brushes in starter are dirty or near worn out hope this helps

Battery is fine but when i turn the key nothing happens. it won't turn over.


blow horn, see if lights in dash light up then turn key all the way like you start car if lights go out and no engine clicks are anything u hhave starter probelms replace it

2007 chevy cobalt ls won't start battery good starter good turn key nothing no click nothing all lites work on dash and radio works jumped starter with screwdriver turns. Over but won't start...

Starter on 2004 chevy trailblazer


If you can't get the key out of the ignition, it's probably the ignition switch (where the key goes in) that is bad, not the starter. The starter is on the right side under the exhaust manifold behind the right front wheel. It's not easy to change on those unless you know what you're doing.

Same issue no radio,windows, locks but dash board electric works


Try unhooking the battery, turn key on, leave door open, then connect battery, start engine immediately. The battery saver module thinks it's saving your power!!
