Spray some " belt dressing" on them see if that helps, if it does, probably bad belt, replace with new.

sounds to me from the brief description like you have either a water pump rattling, or a timing chain coming slack. Is the noise coming from the alternator? Never grease pulleys, ever. also the stop squeak spray is bad for your belts. Don't know why they even sell it. If you listen carefully you may be able to pin point the rattle. Is this a tick tick tick, or a rattle rattle rattle? Does sound like a water pump rattle or timing chain slap though. Hope this helps

My Civic is making a whining sound while running. I have takin all belts of and still its making the noise....The only thing I can think that is left is the balancer and the timing assembly. Any ideas?

Hi, i think the Civic has a timing belt, So the noise could be coming from the belt itself or the tensioner pully assembly or any idler roller that the belt may go round.
Also if the waterpump is driven by the timing belt (which i think it is )it could be noisy
I hope this is of some help to you

My 2001 VW beetle makes a 'card in bicyle spoke' sound when I accelerate. I put the car in neutral and gave it gas to see if it still did it and it did. The noise gets faster with the increase in speed....

could be a lot of things ( if it sounds like ticking
lifters could be the alternator bearings or the belt could be cracked ) if you remove the belt and turn all the pullys you can rule out what it is not also check that belt of all else seems to be ok with the belt off
start the car and see if you still can here the noise if so it is in the engine in most cases (check oil )
if you still arn't sure have it checked

What dose a cam phaser sound like and wear dose the sound come form . on a 2005 ford f150 fx4

The cam phaser I would say wounds most like lifter noise from a 70s car, that ticking noise. At least the really loud cam phasers do sound like that. Some are not quite so noisy. My '06 has a bit of that ticking lifter type noise to it.,

I have a squeeking noise next to steering pump picasso

remove aux drive belt and run engine
if noise goes then you have a noisy pully (poss tensioner pully and unit or crank pully)
if it is still there it will probably be the tensioner on the cam belt

Noisy engine suggesting cam belt prob at 50,000 miles

Do you mean the "Timing Belt"? There is NO Cam belt.. .there is, however, a "Cam Timing Chain"... connects the Intake & Exhaust cams together under the cam cover (valve cover). Unless you actually INSPECT the Timing Belt, no one can know... the noise might be anything! Valve tappets, timing belt Idler pully, tensioner pully, water pump bearing, you name it. Solution: Take vehicle into Hyundai Service Center - pay the diagnostic fee - they will give you an estimate of repairs (if needed) (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.). This way you'll know if there's actually a problem and what it is, as well as what's required to fix it... OR that there's nothing at all wrong.

1993 Isuzu Rodeo engine tick at idle and other

a very common problem with these engines is a clicking sound in the engine, it can be a slight annoying click, to a loud knocking sound. I end result is usually the same, replace your timing belt and tensioner. I researched this problem when i bought mine, and it was knocking. i replaced the timing belt, (which was loose) and actually took the tensioner apart and cleaned it (not recommended for the mechanically challenged). new tensioners may be tought to find. when i put it all back together, it ran smooth and quiet.
