The diagnostics plug should be under the hood on the passenger side with a plastic cover on it that says DIAGNOSTIC.A complete sevice manual should have a listing in it of codes.

Can a diagnostic connector on 1995 Toyota 4 runner be jumped over with jumper wire to get check engine codes?

There is probably a way to access codes by using a jumper and causing the engine checklight or an integral led to flash in groups. I can't say which pin or pins need jumping.

I suggest you ask the question of google and click on the youtube video.

How do I retreive the check engine codes

Take it to a shop that has an OBD1 scanner. The parts stores only have scanners that check 1996 and newer OBD2 systems. You can access flash codes but you will need to purchase a manual or find the procedure online. It involves jumping a couple of connectors at a diagnostic box on the right engine fender well.

Flash codes for engine or Rear ABS? Engine is connect a jumper wire on the diagnostic connector under the hood like you are doing timing. There should be a catalyst sticker that shows you how to how it up. Terminals Te and E1 I believe

Check engine light styays on, has an oil leak, break light goes on and off. smells like something burning.

ok why not get the scan codes, the flash codes from the ECU.?
you insert a 5cent paper clip jumper in to the Diagnostic, jumper plug
and it flashes out what test is failing.
the operators guide covers the BRAKE lamp.
low fluid, or hand brake sticking on, or brake failure.
the tests are in the FSM , or alldata.com for brake lamp.

burning cant be done online, only hands on eyes on.

1st google hit, there are 1000s on topic, would wide.

1994 4runner: Is there a way to get the Check Engine Light code without the scanner tool? Does anyone know where to find a list of trouble codes for the '94 4runner?

there should be a connector under the hood that is rectangular and says diagnostic on it ..open the cover and useing a jumper wire connect te1 and e1 there is a diagram under the cover ...then turn the key on and count the flashes of the check light ...it should pulse in 2 series so if it does flash flash pause flash you have a code 21

How do I see/get error codes for my 1988 4Runner? (idling prob.)

The check connector is located near the No. 2 relay box. Short terminals T and E1 of the check connector. (jump together)
2. Turn the ignition ON. do not start engine.
3. Read codes by the number of flashes of the "CHECK ENGINE" WARNING LIGHT.
4. System normal: blink every 0.25 seconds.
5. Malfuction Code: light will blink a number of times equal to the malfuction code.Between first digit and second digit, 1.5 sec
Between code and code 2.5 sec, between all malfuction codes 4.5 sec
6. The diagnostics code series will be repeated as long as the connector terminals T and E1 are jumped.
7. Codes are 2 digit numbers
