Have you checked the power steering fluid ? If you have none where did it go ? Check for leaks at the rack and pinion, and at the power steering pump.

How do you add power steering pump to 95 toyota tercel

Do you need to replace an existing pump or is your car currently manual steering? If it is manual steering there will be more than just adding a pump. The actual steering rack is most likely different from a power steering unit so there would be multiple components required to convert. If your pump is faulty, you just need to disconnect the lines, remove the belt then remove the pump and install the new one. While you are doing that I would flush the old fluid out of the rack to increase life span of steering rack.

The power steering on my 1992 Lexus LS400 has real bad hard dots when I turn rt or left. It gets real stiff & then the hard spot releases if I keep turning the steering wheel. I'm thinking it's the power...

this problem indicates a bad steering rack. the bushings in the rack are worn and have caused groves in the housing causing the binding. the only solution is to replace the steering rack. if a problem was the power steering pump it would not get easy when you turn the steering wheel further the problem would be there all the time.

My 2003 ford focus lost it's power steering, mechanic replaced the rack and pinion thing - lost steering again and now the mechanic says it is the power steering pump. The rack and pinion was replaced...

if the rack and pinion was not leaking or causing problems. then he may of made a wrong move! if the rack was fine before, and you just lost power steering. then it is most likely the power steering pump or the lines that go from rack to the pump. good-day ! if a rack goes bad, you will get a bad steering problem or just bad steering.

My 2003 Chevy TrailBlazer power steering is leaking in the boot going to the rack. What do I need to do? What needs to happen

If there is power steering fluid in the rack boots than the rack has gone bad and will need to be replaced asan entire unit. It is not that hard of a job on this vehicle. The worst part will be removing the power steering lines from rack. If you think it's something you want to tackle yourself I can give you some basic direction on what to do.

1995 volvo 850 power steering leak at the rack is there a seal that might be replaced?

Not without completely reconditioning the steering rack, no.

In practice, it's always far quicker to fit an exchange steering rack. It costs a bit more than DIY but you're up and running faster, don't need to invest in special tools and you get a warranty on the entire unit.

Lexus power stearing rack

Hi

You should not be afraid to take it back to your mechanic, and tell him that he has not cured the problem.

Possibly it is one of the steering rack pipes that just needs tightening, or it is a high pressure hose faulty, or the pump, or at the worst, maybe the new steering rack is faulty, and he can then sort out a replacement under warranty.

Put some cardboard on the floor, and try to get a pin point, as to the exact source of the drip, this is the true crux of the matter.

Good Luck !

A FixYa rating would be appreciated Please !

2005 chrysler 300 steering problem

U have a failed steering rack internal seal, the leakage causes the hard spot, most likely the seal surface is scored allowing fluid to leak by at a certain position of the wheel. Try getting a bottle of LUCAS oil brand power steering sealer and conditioner, it really works. also check and see if the PS fluid is disclored, if it is get a cheap turkey baster and **** out as much fluid as possiable and add clean fluid.
