It is probably a broken line. Fill pump up and watch the hoses and lines while some else turns the wheel back and forth with the motor running.

I have a 1991 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. Recntly, I made a tight right turn. I heard a sound and a pressure release. From this, it has been hard to steer. What is needed to fix this issue? Parts, Remedies.

I think your power steering pressure hose burst or is leaking.

Could be leaking some other place in the power steering, but you heard a pressure release it must have been the high pressure line. Obviously, there is a leak since its hard to steer. You should check your power steering lines to see where your leak is.

Car is difficult to steer

well it sounds like you got a broken belt under the hood, that spins the alternator and power steering and if that belt broke you wont have power steering and your alt will not charge the battery and the lights will come on, so pop the hood and check to see if the belt is still there and if it is check to see if it has tension on it, the tensioner could have let go and the belts not on,,,

Bad smell, clicking noise, hard to steer

If the clicking noise is Louder when you are trying to turn have your power steering pump checked it is leaking or has failed and will need replaced, Smell is the power steering fluid that has leaked out onto your engine. and This is why it is hard to steer, pump has failed

Power steering

Try filling the P/S pump resevour and slightly turning the steering wheel side to side just enough to activate the P/S pump. Remove the return line from the pump and keep turning the wheel until you have a really good flow out. Be sure to keep adding P/S fluid while you're doing this. If it's still hard to steer, the pump bearings are now bad. Time to replace it.
