What can cause my power steering to leak

The pump itself most likely is the leaking problem. Also follow the lines from end to end to see any leaks, mainly at the connectors. Fill the power reservoir and turn the steering far to the right and look to see if you can see any leaks, do the same by turning it to the left. The car must be running.

Check your power steering fluid. If low it whines and is related to engine speed.

The power steering quit on my wifes 1998 plymouth voyager and all the belts appear to be in place and working. Could it be the pump failed?

Either the pump or steering box has failed or you are low on fluid. First check the fluid level and look for areas of leakage either at the pump, along the lines or at the box. The boxes seldom fail so if it is not a leakage and lack of fluid problem, it is most likely the pump.

It is really hard to make turns. check power stering fluid ok

check power steering fluid if real real low you have a leak at hoses or pump seals.if all is good check for low tires and lack of lubrication to at ball joints and tie rod ends. if all is good you have power steering pump failure.
