Question about 1990 Eagle Talon
This ia a 90' eagle talon that i am lookin at buying, the owner says he has no spark, wondering if its a common problem or not and if its an easy fix
It is somewhat common for a failed power transistor to cause this problem. Locate the ignition system power transistor. It is between the #2 and #3 injectors. It will have a 3-wire connector. Unplug the connector, turn the key on and measure voltage on all three wires. One wire should have battery voltage going to coil negative. It should be located on one of the ends of the connector. The other 2 wires will have very little voltage. The middle wire is grounded. The other wire goes to the PCM. This wire is located on the opposite end of the connector from the wire going to the coil negative. Remove this wire from the connector or the wire can be cut in a location easy to repair, then plug the connector back into the power transistor. Using a jumper wire, attach it to a 5 volt source, such as the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Jump the 5 volts to the wire that is cut or removed from the connector on the end going to the power transistor. Each time the jumper wire is touched and released, it should get 1 spark out of the coil. The key has to be on for this test. If there is no spark, replace the power transistor.
