with out a scan tool, is there any way to bypass the temp or 02 sensors to find the bad one

  • billinclack Feb 04, 2010

is there any way to bypass the 02 sensor and temp sensors to see if that is the problem the check eng light did come on i dont have a scan tool

  • billinclack Feb 04, 2010

i have good fuel press, and spark and yes the check eng. light is on, i have no way to read it the car acts like the fuel injectors are not working there is fuel to the injectors and power to to coils, is there a relay that controls the fuel injectors that might be shuting down when the car gets warm. i have an oil light that stays on, it seems like the motor runs fine cold no oil light is on when cold, but when motor warms up to temp the oil light starts to flicker and then just stays on and it seems like thats

when the motor dies, ( there is no motor noise at the time like rods knocking ) the motor will start if i use starter fluid and runs for a min or two

Hi,

Usually Fuel Pump is the main Cause. But besides that, i always advise the Customers to check fuel pressure. Fuel injected cars are very fuel pressure sensitive. Fuel pressure is very important and must be within specifications! But if the pressure is low, it does not mean the pump is bad. A plugged fuel filter, a pinched line, and low voltage at the pump can contribute to low fuel pressure. All three must be check before replacing the pump! U can get a fuel pressure gauge at a local auto parts store for cheap

Do you see any Check Engine Light being ON?

If yes, Read the Below Guide and let me know the Codes, if the Check Engine Light is On.

    Thanks for your response!!

I understand your concern, but Does Not Make any sense to keep Inspecting, when problem could be something else. You could take the Car to Auto Zone and usually they DO NOT charge for Scanning. You already Spent money on Replacing Components when it is not Required. To save few Dollars, you spent much more than that. I hope you would agree. Let me know the Codes ONLY and i would be able to Guide you from there. There are Certain Recalls which could be checked ONLY on the basis of the Error Codes and the Problem.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

There are many things that may be causing this to happen. The only real way to properly diagnose this would be if you have your car checked for any stored or cleared codes. However, I believe that if you were to check the codes, I have a feeling that you may have an issue with an oxygen sensor or coolant temperature sensor. Prior to running the engine is in what they call open loop operation, that of which the engine controller ignores the readings from your oxygen sensors while they get to operating temperature to have accurate readings. After a few minutes of running the oxygen sensors become active and the engine uses the readings from these sensors which then may be flawed. And with the temp sensor, the sensor may not be adjusting to engine temperature, therefore giving false readings to the controller.

Quits after warm up wont restart

sounds like you have a fuel pump problem, fuel pumps will usually get hot and then shut off allowing it to sit 30 mins lets the pump cool down allowing it to start pumping, the way you can test it is get a can of starting fluid the next time it quits raise your hood and spray some fluid down into the throttle body and if it starts and then dies it is most likely your fuel pump, hope this helps.

Dodges have a high rate of failure in the engine ecu. If you can find you 5v supply that feeds the sensors. Ohm it to ground If it dose ohm out (shorted to ground) unplug your ecu and recheck.

Fuel pressure intermittently drops causing sputter and die.

check for 12v constant at your fuel pump if you are not getting that replace your relay.
if you are getting 12 volts at your fuel pump the fuel pump is possible to run tuel it gets warm then shut down to a lower rpm I would then replace the fuel pump

Not very technical at the moment, but I can tell it's in the fuel sensor system, not fuel delivery. Check the Mass Airflow Sensor, and related sensors.
