Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Alero

1 Answer

Alero not going when push gas.

As I was driving my alero today, the low gas light rang(which is has done many times in the past few weeks because I haven't filled it up in awhile) and then shortly after,as I was accelerating from a stop, and when it got up to about 45 the speed dropped, down to about 30, and wouldn't let me speed up. And I was pressing the gas, but it didn't go any faster. It bucked a little at first, but immediately the "Engine light" came on. As I got to a hill and started to roll down it at 30 mph, it would then let me accelerate a little bit more. Even though I haven't had the problem since earlier today, the light is still on. Does anyone know what this could be?

Ok, so you are saying it could be like trash in the fuel filter. Could that be because of bad gas? The car has almost 160,000 miles. Could you tell me what other signs I will notice if the fuel pump is burning out? Is that expensive to fix? Where is the fuel pump, and fuel filter located on the alero? I appreciate it.

before you think it is a fuel issue check your vacume hoses for leaks this will cause your car to run lean which means your engine is running too cool and your 02 sensors will not work this will throw a engine code to the pcm saying no activity in bank 1 or 2 also check intake gasket leak spray brake cleaner on all hoses and around intake if rpms change then you found a leak

Sound like a fuel pump burning out, or the filter is clogged.

take the spark plugs out and fill the water up. turn over the engine. see what comes out of the spark plug holes. should just be fuel. smell. you will need some one to turn the engine over and have good charge in the battery. fill the water to the top so it is level. if you see the water go down when the engine is turning. then it could be air or a leak in the head gasket.

I have 2000 ford expedition and last few weeks its been making a whistling noise when accelerate, then past few days it's been running rough, idel low and shakes a bit then today check engine ligh

You might check the pulleys that the serpentine belt runs on. Make sure all are free wheeling and not loose or rough or make noise. You would need to remove the belt to check them.

That is so weird, because my 2004 Alero was doing the same thing a few weeks ago. I took it one morning to the auto place because I was really worried, but it didn't do it again while at the shop. It hasn't done it as badly as that one morning, but it occasionally idles a little high. Still haven't been able to figure out way.

99 ALERO COUPE NOT ACCELERATING

your fuel pump is in the tank but first check your hoses on your intake for vacume leaks.Could have a bad intake gasket too.it sounds like your engine is getting to much air which will cause your vehicle to run lean. also clean your mass airflow sensor. Soak it in carburetor cleaner for a couple of hours it is probably dirty. i had this problem too.another resource could also be bad o rings on your injectors. Hope this gets you in the right direction.

2002 oldsmobile alero coolant light and fuel

You must always check the coolant hot, expansion will cause a big change in level, how low was it? top it off hot and then drive a few days and recheck the level, I don't think you have an issue here.
