Question about Acura CL

When I come to stop sometimes I hear a noise and it feels like someone tapped me from behind. I was told it was the transmission downshifting and that it could be the module but I am unsure. It shifts fine when I am driving. It is a automatic Transmission.

Although difficult to diagnose without test driving the vehicle, the symptom you have described can be caused by are worn engine or transmission mounts.

I would recommend having the mounts checked for worn bushings and excessive movement. This should be done by a reputable repair shop and is not something that is easy to do without a lift.

Any shop that is familiar with Hondas would be best.

Good luck.

It could be a ground wire. I'm curious did the previous owner install the radio? Sometimes people just install a radio to the nearest power, ground and remote wire without any precautions on what they tap in to. Part of what you are hearing is alternator and/or ignition noise. Between the two noises my concern is that the installer might have tapped into a blower motor wire for either power or ground. The noise itself can be fixed with a 20 amp noise filter such as this one http://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Automotive-Noise-Filter-270-055/dp/B000T306DY but I suspect a bigger issue. Either you or someone knowledgeable with car audio installation should pull that radio out and check all the connections and where they are tapped in to and install it properly. The engine noise itself can be fixed with the noise filter. This popping sound I feel is a short from mis installation. I have seen cars get dash fires from this. I never like to worry people but I am also honest. I would tend to this soon. Good luck.

Providing there are no oil leaks at all, some transmission stabilizer may help. Any experience i've had with a whining 5 speed, is not good. Usually it's a bearing on it's way out. Try some of this, and see if it makes any difference. RISLONE® TRANSMISSION STABILIZER

Change the transfer filter, and you might need to change the modulator control valve that makes it shift.

Rear end clunk in Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup

The noise is caused by the axle button being worn out, this lets the axle move back and forth and clunk, this is a unique problem with C clip retained axles, it is a noise issue but will not fail and cause any more damage, in order to fix it you must have the axles pulled and the diff carrier checked for excess wear where the axle retainning C clip rides, if the carrier is ok then replace the axles.

bad design flaw with the transmission kick down cable make sure you are in OD first but if you are then this cable is adjustable it is next to the throttle cable and tells the trans when to downshift only adjust very little increments as this can easily blow your tanni as you may already know this feeling

Slippy Tranny

Had the same problem. had the soiniod body changedbeginning of winter. Tranny shift Smoother but problem can back the next spring but less often then before.

Noticed that it was happening on hot day and after driving no more than an hour. Noticed that it was happening also in stop and go traffic.

Sometimes just putting the Tranny at Park and stopping the engine on a RED light fixes the problem.

I haven't gone back to the Tranny Shop.
