Pull the negative battery cable off then the positive. There should be a release button on the underside of the steering wheel to release the key.
Is it a newly made key ?

SOURCE: Ignition stuck in run position with keys in it.

If it has a automatic transmission make sure it's in park (try pushing the shifter while twisting the key). Try wiggling the steering wheel while twisting the key. If the car is parked for long periods of time the ignition cylinder could be sticking (try spraying WD-40 in around the key). I had a classic car and the key fell out while the engine was running. And when I turned it off I couldn't turn it again even with the key, I had to replace the lock cylinder.

SOURCE: key stuck in on position cant turn car off

This sounds like a warn ignition lock. The tumblers probably are warn down and have too much slop so the unit is jamming. Try wiggling the key around as you turn. Good luck.

There may be to much pressure on the steering wheel lock for it to go into the off position. put the parking brake on. put the shifter in neutral gently turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction of where the wheels are pointed and try turning the key to the off position. Good Luck

Hi there,
try turning the wheel to the right/left while turning the key in the ignition. You have to apply some force. Your car is probably outliving its road life.
