Well i will say that its not something you should do if you have any doubts. but on the other hand i can give you a few tips and tricks but the rest is up to you and your abilities. first off every wire, cable, hose, and vacuum line need to be marked so you know where it goes. and your going to need a good number of tools as well. and if something dont seem to go together just right, its always for a reason. take it back apart and look it over and figure out what is not lining up. never force things to go together. other then that it is up to you but i wouldnt do it if you have a single doubt about your ability, cause you could end up breaking more stuff and costing more. i know for a fact as a mechanic there is nothing more frustrating and annoying then someone that started something, figured out they couldnt finish it, then brought it in, in pieces. and then they need to figure out what you did and didnt do, and then get it all back together. and that all takes time and time is money. i hope this helped.

Can someone tell me if the 2005 Mazda 6 2.0 diesel 136ps has a cambelt or chain? If it is a belt when should I replace it. I'm on 116000 km's.

Filipe, Gates is a timing belt manufacturer and they recommend changing belt every 100,000 KM. This is what is known as a interference fit engine, If the timing belt were to break, it could cause extensive damage to valve train. Through some searching, recommended Timing Belt change interval is 60/75000 miles or every 72 months. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Engine Light - Cam Gears Problem??

sounds like a timing belt issue. Toyotas will run forever if you change the timing belt every 100,000 km, or 65,000 miles

The new timing belt jumped

no it is not. (late answer) is this a double post?

all timing belts jump,
1: every 60k miles for most. ever read the service list.
some top quality belts go bad at 100k miles. so.....????

Honda uses an "interference" engine design.
do not skip this service, or the whole engine can grenade !!!
honda quote, pasted.
However, since these engines utilize an interference design, it is highly recommended to at least inspect the timing belt at 60,000 mile (96,000 km) intervals. It is an even better idea to replace the belt at these intervals. On 1990-94 models, Honda recommends the timing belt to be replaced at 90,000 mile (144,000 km) intervals. On 1995 models, the recommended interval is 60,000 miles (96,000 km).end quote.

and if the last guy put in a POS china belt, well, you are hosed.
no name belts are junk, never ever use one,
BTW i run Gates belts.

Time belt how maney miles do you change it

Hello,

The timing belt of the car is to be changed after it has run 60000 miles. Try to change it once it is approaching the 60000 miles, if not it might damage the entire engine and it will cost You a lot more to replace the engine than replacing just the timing belt.

If You need the steps to replace the timing belt, You can call back for more assistance. I will be so glad to be of assistance to You once again.

Hope this helped. Thank You for using FixYa!!!

Timing belt broke while driving car what internal damage should i check for before trying to replace belt

I'd recommend doing a web (or dealer) search for your specific engine to see if it's an "interference" engine. An interference engine is one where the intake or exhaust valves could come in contact with the pistons if the timing belt were to break. If your engine is NOT an interference engine, you can start to swap out the timing belt with no worries. If it IS an interference engine, and the timing belt broke while you were driving, there could be a great deal of internal damage. It's hard to estimate what the damage could be... it could range from zero damage (unlikely), to broken valves and pistons. You could do a compression test on each cylinder before replacing the belt.

Good luck.

this engine uses a timing chain, chains require no replacement unless the engine is being repaired or the chain or spockets fail

I have a 1984 dodge ram pick up with the mitsubishi motor and i was woindering if the timeing was belt or chain

1984 years came with the 2.0L, 2.6L gasoline and 2.3 diesel engines.

It's most likely a timing belt, but read further for more info. Recommended to be replaced at 60,000 miles (96,000 km) on gasoline engines and on diesel engines at 50,000 miles (80,000 km).

The 2.0 L Engine have two timing belts. One connects the crankshaft and camshaft, the second one drives the right silent shaft.

The 2.6L engine has a timing chain and a silent shaft chain.

Please check to see which particular engine you have and refer to the above for your answer.
