Sounds like your trans. is going out try using a transmission fluid additive called LUCAS STOP SLIP it will temporarily fix it for smooth driving although some people have reported their slipping permanently stop.

would take a lot of revs for first gear to make it roll from a standing start
think it will be fitted with an 6 speed automatic transmission

Transmission problems

It could be a sign of bad transmission solenoid. If so, your vehicle has trouble shifting into drive or reverse. Normally, when you start your car, you're able to shift into drive or reverse right away. With a bad transmission solenoid, the vehicle could have a delay of a few seconds, or even take several minutes to warm up and operate properly. During this delay, the vehicle will act similar to how it behaves in neutral. It won't stay in park, and when you press the gas pedal, the vehicle will make an engine revving noise but not move.

I have trouble accelerating out of first gear. Is my transmission slipping?

If you have a tach on the dash & it flairs when you first take off, then it is slipping

On a vehicle about 10 years old, it is about due for a rebuild,
unless the fluid was changed every 3 years

Coming to stop sign by putting break gear slips then return to park move to drive runs. second as i drive in curves slips but as give gas enough continues running.

Just to make sure I got this right. If you come to a stop, the car won't pull again unless you put it in park? Then, if you start into a curve, the transmission starts to slip unless you give it more gas? This could be signs of a bad torque converter, failing fluid pump (not as likely), or burnt/low transmission fluid level. Check the transmission fluid after the vehicle has been driven (warm engine), leave it running, and on a level surface. Check the level twice and take the lowest reading.

Transmission slip little drive very slow take off

Hi!!
Service the transmission, (change transmission fluid and filter) if that don't help , try adding a bottle of RISLONE Transmission Slip and Leak Stop (cost $12) to the transmission fluid. I recommend the RISLONE brand because that's the one I use, if not available, use another brand. Drive the vehicle for about 20 miles and you'll notice the difference.
Good Luck! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi
It sounds like the transmission slipped. You need have the vehicle check for trouble codes and the trans. fluid level.

Actually, when the O/D light is flashing, the vehicle is indicating a problem within that specific system. When this happens with any system on the vehicle,a diagnostic trouble code is set in the vehicle computer's memory. What you did by disconnecting the battery was simply to erase the trouble code from the computer's memory. If the transmission feels like it is slipping,it probably is,and that's where the problem will be.You can drive the vehicle, and the code will reset again sooner or later,as will the O/D light flashing.Have the vehicle scanned when the code resets, try not to drive it very hard, because if the trans is slipping, driving it will worsen the damage/cost to repair.
