Question about 1999 Ford Taurus

Heat wont work unless you travel at least 60mph. Over heats when idling not while driving. Been flushed four times and water is always orange. Even when we use green antifreeze after flushing in two days its orange again.

NO heat at idle??


Your heater core is partially blocked. I know you flushed it, but you can't get all of the sediment out and make it flow under low RPM because of the blockage caused by scale and oxidation caused by minerals in water/coolant. Try to flush it again using CLR, and if that doesn't work, you'll most likely have to replace it. Hope this helped!

It's not possible to tell you exactly what is causing the vehicle to overheat; however, I can tell you possible causes. The engine cooling system is based on the fact that heat always travels to cold, so that if one thing is warmer than another, it will transfer its heat to the cooler thing. Engine heat is first transferred to the coolant in its water passages, the coolant carries the heat to the radiator where the heat is then transferred to the air flowing between the radiator cores and fins; the cooled coolant then returns to the engine to take away more heat. Thermostats, when they deteriorate, usually stick open from lack of spring pressure and cause the engine to run cool, so we can rule that out. You need to check for good coolant circulation by the water pump, and check the radiator and A/C condenser to make sure nothing is restricting air flow (such as bugs, leaves etc. or bent over fins), and the last, and possibly most likely source of the problem is clogged radiator cores that are not exposing the heated coolant to the air flow. The greatest tool for diagnosing cooling systems is a no touch thermometer available at many parts stores for around $30 to $50 for a decent one. If your problem is clogged radiator cores flushing seldom clears them, and few radiator shops rod out cores anymore, so the least expensive and best sure is a new radiator. One final thought, if your vehicle has a fan shroud make sure it's in place and in good shape.

My 2007 Malibu maxx does not have heat unless I rev the engine for about 5 minutes and then have heat until I start driving and then The heat stops can this be the thermistat?


It might be a bad thermostat, or a blockage in your radiator. By reving the engine, you make the water pump, pump faster pushing any debris build-up right through. When it idles, there is less pressure and water doesn't flow through for your heater coil. Best thing to do would be to stop in at Auto-Zone, or Advance Auto Parts, or a similar store and ask if they can check your coolant for rust or debris. If they say there is some in it, they may recommend a radiator flush. They may even hook your car to a machine to find the problem, most auto parts stores do not charge for this(ask ahead of time).

2008 Chevy Uplander has 21,000 miles. Nno heat from rear heater at idle. Disconnected hoses and flushed, water flowed good. Reconnected hoses and still no heat. Raised idle to 2000 rpm and got good heat....


Uplanders with the 3.9 engine are prone to no heat at idle speeds. Probably weeping head gasket. Air bubble trapped. Dealers will remove rad cap and let it sit at about 25 deg. angle for a couple hours. Good for awhile.

My Voyager is overheating, Ive flushed the radiator,changed the thermostat,radiator cap & temp.sending unit. The fan works properly but Ive replaced the relay that runs the fan,A/C,& temp. sending...


will it sounds like u tryed everything except what could be cousing the problem it is probley the heater core is pluged with hard water or calcium build up or is just pluged and a rad flush wont flush the heater core unless you start the vechial and flushing the rad to do the heaterd core to turn on the heat to high and the fasters fan speed and make shore the van is running.

No heat in 99 ford windstar


Check the coolant level. If it's low, what you describe will happen. There is not sufficient coolant to flow through the heater core at idle. At 60mph the water pump is spinning quickly, managing to get some coolant through the heater core, so you get heat until the rpm's drop at idle. If it is due to low level, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again, as you may have a leak.

Sounds like you may have a thermostat stuck open. Try taking a piece of cardboard and placing it in front of the radiato. Don't block it completely, but just limit some of the airflow. See if this helps.

Unless I'm driving, there is no hot air coming from the heater at idle.


probable low on coolant check your coolant lvl, if it is full then you may have a restricted heater core, in the case of the heater core one of the heater hoses will be much cooler than the other, you can reverse the hoses and sometimes remove the restriction enough to make descent heat
