Question about 1993 Saturn SL

My 93 saturn sl still has this sputer and die problem when you come to a stop and then take off at random times i already changed the plugs wires coil packs fuel filter fuel pump fuel pressure regulator and made sure the return fuel line was clear what should i try next

    the cars idle is correct its never rough it does not have a dist i checked the spark gap its right no faults at present prior fault 45 came up which said rich mix but does not come up now this problem does not happen unless the car has been running for at least 45 + min

U have not done the one thing that causes this to happen in all modern fuel injected engines with automatic idle speed control systems, read and perform the following procedure it should cure the problem within a day or so. don't skip any steps,.u also really need to do a fault code test.here is the link.

    Here are the common cause of surges, cold stalls, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

    I suggest u address the rich mixture problem if the cleaning doesn't cure the problem, also dirty oil can give this code

Have you hooked it up to a OBD II scanner to retrieve any error codes? (even if the check engine light is off and stays off you should still scan your vehicle computer) First, check the timing and adjust it to the correct mark (use a timing light gun) Next, have the fuel injectors cleaned, dirty injectors would cause your fuel to be delivered in spurts instead of a steady stream. Make sure the spark plugs were set to the correct gap. Change the distributor cap and rotor. Clean out the throttle body, clean out the IAC bore, and replace the idle air control valve. A vacuum leak or sticking EGR valve can cause stalling too. Usually a vacuum leak or partially stuck EGR valve will cause a rough idle.

I have a 1992 saturn when i try to speed up a little quick it starts jumping and sputering if you give it its time it will go as fast as you want though what could be the problem


Sounds like you might have a bad throttle postion sensor. I would also check to see if the throttle body needs cleaned and the fuel filter.

Random misfire once warmed up.


really not much to go on there

You could run some injector clean in the fuel for a couple tanks. Make it strong.

You might have weak coil pack but I don't suspect that as much

You might have an intake leak ( vacuum leak ).

The crank sensor could be dropping out at times.

You could have a valve issue

Or if your luckey you may just need a tuneup which I'm sure you have done already since your here.

I,have a.2002 saturn sl 1 series the car will run ok until i am stopped at light and then it dies sometimes it takes about 7 to 10 min but it will start again i replaced fuel pump and filter ,i have also...


My friend had the same symptoms on his Saturn that you're describing. It ended up to be the timing belt was worn and timing had slipped. Check your owners manual and you should find when you're timing belt should be changed. I'm willing to bet money that it's should of been done a while ago.

1998 saturn sc2 P0303 code just came up. already


p303 is a cylinder 3 missfire I woul first check the coil and then the ingnition module, Then if this dont work you could have a bad injector. If after testing and still no fix you should check the compression in that cyl.
