Instructions

Locate the dipstick for your transmission. It is usually near the back of the engine, and the stick handle is either a T-handle or a ring handle.

Grasp the dipstick handle and pull straight up until the end of the stick clears the housing tube. Wipe the stick off with a rag, and push it all the back down into the tube.

Pull the stick all the way out again and hold it so you can see the end of the stick and the film of fluid that clings to it.

Look for the level indicators stamped or drilled into the dipstick. You should see two sets of indicators. One set is for checking the fluid when the engine is cold, and the other set is for checking the fluid when the engine is hot. Each set of indicators is marked with a "full" line and an "add" line.

Determine whether your transmission fluid is at the proper level by finding the spot on the dipstick where the film of fluid ends. If the film ends near the "full" mark or somewhere near the halfway point between "full" and "add," your transmission has an adequate fluid level.

Return the dipstick to the holding tube and push it all the way back down into the tube. Fully seat the dipstick in the holding tube

How do you check transmission fluid

Make sure the engine has been at operating tempurature for at least 5 minutes. Open the hood and locate the TRANSMISSION dipstick, this one is different from the ENGINE OIL dipstick. It is usually bigger and located closer to the firewall in the engine compartment, if you have any doubts about finding it, look in your owners manual, it should tell you where it is. When you pull the correct dipstick you can tell becuase the fluid is RED and not BLACK or BROWN like engine oil. The car should be on a level surface and the engine should be idling in PARK to check the fluid correctly. Pull the dipstick, wipe it with a clean cloth and then re-insert it and pull it out again. There should be clear markings on the end of the dipstick to show where the level is. Again, check in your owners manual to see where normal levels are marked. If you don't have an owners manual, just look to see if the level is at least between two marks; an uppper and a lower. If no fluid shows on the stick, you are running low on fluid and could damage the transmission, have it filled immediately.
Hope this helps.

Finding transmission dipstick on 4-cyl

Transmission dipstick is located way down the engine block on the left side, more or less below the distributor cap. It has a yellow handle, and it is difficult to reach with a hot engine.

Where on the engine do you add transmission fluid on a 1994 Toyota Camry?

there is a transmission dipstick between the airfilter and the radiator. the handle will be balck or orange. if you still have trouble finding it look about 5 inches to the right of where the engine and transmission meet in the middle up by the radiator. you can put transmission fluid in there.

Does the 2003 grand am have a dip stick for the transmission

Dipstick is on the left side of the engine near the firewall. It is a black plastic handle that folds down on the top. You have to flip it up so there is a handle to grab and pull the dipstick out. GM did not want us backyard mechanics finding it. lmao

Adding transmission fluid to my 2003 saturn vue

the dipstick is located behind the front transmission mount and its held in by a 12mm bolt. you may need to remove the transmission mount to check the fluid. the color of the dipstick is yellow, make sure the car is in park and fully warmed up to operating temerature and on a level surface before checking the fluid.

Transmission

It is on the left rear area under the hood, down low, between the motor and the steering column. The transmission dipstick should be yellow plastic and has a 1/2 inch square hole in the top. Insert a long handled 1/2 inch breaker bar into the fitting in the top of the dipstick, use a two-foot long 1 inch wooden dowel to push back the spring clip holding the dipstick in place, and pull out the transmission dipstick with the breaker bar. You will need a length of 1/2 inch tubing afixed to a funnel to add tranasission fluid. I highly recommend changing the transmission oil often to protect the transmission. Be sure to pump all the old fluid out and not just drain the pan. See Brickboard.

Finding the transmission dipstick for a 2001 Chevy malibu

Actually your car has no transmission dipstick...

There is a red fill cap on the transmission bell housing under the brake master cylinder. You'll have to look real hard to see it. There is also a bolt on the passenger side of the transmission that you remove to check the level.

You have to fill the oil from the fill cap until it runs out of the bolt hole. Don't ask me why GM did this on a lot of their cars...
