Question about 2005 Lincoln LS

Open Question

My CD player stops playing and goes back to playing the radio. Most of the time it happens when I try to change to a different song on the CD by using the buttons located on the steering wheel instead of the buttons on the stereo panel. The stereo panel displays a message saying "Report Alert" (or vice versa-I can't remember). The volume and mute buttons on the steering wheel work without a problem, so I assume it's not a fuse? What could be causing this? Thanks!

SOURCE: steering wheel controls

Replace the clock spring, or check all the cabling and plugs first. If you are inexperienced take it to an auto electrician, otherwise do it yourself but disconnect the negative battery terminal for 2 minutes prior to opening the steering wheel to check the plugs, as not doing so could cause the airbag to go off. In addition you can also take out the airbag fuse. Check radio control plugs and close it up again and reconnect everything in reverse order. If that doesn't fix it, then have the clock spring replaced professionally, its too much mucking around if you don't know what you're doing.

SOURCE: 2005 Lincoln LS - possessed

The LS has several onboard computers that share information on a network. If something on this system shorts or spikes it can cause all kinds of crazy things like this. One of the main culprits for this is ignition coil packs but the coolant control valve has been known to cause these problems also.I suspect that the latter may be the case for you since you only have heat. It mounts to the fan shroud on the passenger side of the car.Try unhooking it and see if this stops the traction control light and parking brake light from coming on.

it's busted, and needs service, hark"?
most folks won't spend $200 on repairs, if new is less!
so, time for an upgrade (media center with usb and 4000 songs. like rest of world uses, sure, why not?>)
this answer is here, like 100 times. and is right.

Why has the cd player has stopped working,it only goes from tape to radio and back again.

Do you have a digital display? Are there any lights on the player to tell you it is playing? Have you tried to open the CD drawer? There might be a button on it, so you can put a CD in it. I suggest you try to put a CD in it, because it might play automatically when you insert a disc. If that doesn't work, come back and let us know.

Radio does not work will not prompt security code

Disconnection and/or draining of the battery is interpreted by your Jag as a stolen radio so you have to go back to the beginning and reenter the radio code. The CD player problem may go away once the radio is properly identified.

2003 Jeep Liberty - no radio sound after replacing the battery

Check all fuses inside and outside of the jeep and also try to disconnect the battery for 3-30 minutes and then hook it back up,and make sure if you have an alarm that its turned off.then try and see if it works then.Remember and try not to arc the battery terminal when you put it back together.

Cd player flashes ''error'' when you put a cd in. It waa playing fine. Just stopped playing ejected cd.

try another cd wont play if too scratched or dirty. handle disc by edge, dont touch the surface of disc no matter how lightly you hold it, you will leave contaminants that cloud the surface. if none ever work try them in a house cd player still no joy, then discs aare no good, if they work in home player then car cd died, time for new one. heck who uses cd any more? its a hassle to change them (only 16 songs!), hassle to replace lost daamaged or stolen(borrowed by friends), skip or scratches, get a radio with usb reader/player or SD card reader, can be had for under $60 , an 8gb SD card for $25 (4,000 songs<do you even KNOW the names of that many songs?) PLus, without a cd slot the thieves should leave your radio alone, thinking its just a normal am/fm radio. goto www.dealextreme.com for great deals and FREE SHIPPING.

My dodge stratus radio cd will only play cd from the start you can not change songs . this happens to cd made on home computer.

Dodge CD player's aren't very compatible with burned CDs. A lot of times they don't recognize the dongs as being different tracks and have to be fast forwarded. Not much can be done about it. More likely to happen if you have the infinity sound system.

2002 Ram Radio problem

It sounds like a cold soldered joint internally in the radio. My advice is to buy a nice aftermarket radio with an MP3 CD player. MP3 gives you the option to burn music from your computer. In addition, MP3 CDs will hold over 100 songs per CD.
It MIGHT be a poor connection at the power connector on the rear of the radio. You could try pulling out the radio and cleaning the connection before purchasing a new radio.
