Its very possible that the oil caused the ignition coil to fail,I would suggest that you repair the valve cover leak.

I change plugs and wires still have A miss


This may be due to a vacuum leak, but it can also be caused by dirty fuel injectors, a weak fuel pump (low fuel pressure) or a faulty fuel pressure regulator. It can also be caused my ignition misfire due to worn or fouled spark plugs, bad spark plug wires, or weak ignition coil. Also low cylinder pressure from burnt valve, head gasket leaks or piston rings.

Engine got a skip


well do a tune up on engine if missing.replace spark plugs and wires.replace distributor cap and rotor.replace ignition coil.clean fuel injectors and replace fuel filter.if all fails. if engine has high mileage could have low compression due to worn cylinders burned valves. do a compression check see condition of engine.vacuum leaks and leaking egr valve cause engine miss.

Fail hc emission test


HC stands for Hydrocarbons. This means that there is too much unburned fuel in your exhaust. Your engine is running rich. Many things can cause this. It could be a failed MAP or MAF sensor. It could be ignition timing, it could be sticking injectors, It could be cylinder misfires caused by bad spark plugs and/or wires or bad ignition coils. It could be a leaking fuel pressure regulator. It could be caused by low engine vacuum resulting from any number of engine mechanical failures including burned valves, improper valve timing, blown head gaskets, etc.

Why engine exhausted blue,black and white smoke

There are many cases which can cause an engine misfire condition.The most possible causes are

Failed EGR/O2 Sensor/MAF Sensor/Fuel Injector
Presence of vacuum leak.
Failed head gasket.
Burned or leaking intake or exhaust valves
Worn out camshaft or crankshaft sensor/Spark plug.
Ignition coil has failed

Most cases a check engine light will be triggered . So if it is On in you car kindly have a scan done using an OBD scanner . It will throw the error codes and the exact area of fault can be identified

My 98 exployer is misfiring on all 6 cycdeers but runs fine after warmed up

If the head has a slight leak which is getting into the motor, should I take out the motor or replace the head gasket?


If your head has a slight leak you're probably burning coolant and/or oil. With coolant burning the exhaust is a visible white color and smells 'sweet' too. Exhaust when oil is burning sometimes looks bluish. Smells like burning oil too.

Take out the motor? You mean fully replace the whole thing? No.

Why is the head gasket leaking? Did it overheat at some point? If so, then your problem is bigger than just a bad gasket. Milling (flattening) of the head is required and there might be other issues caused by the exhaust (oxygen sensors now might be fouled). Costs for milling and replacement might run around $1500, but this is just a guesstimate.

Possible bad ignition coil and valve cover gasket


No start on 97 dodge intrepid. I Know that Coil pack is Below Valve cover and Have repaired Numerous Ignition coils due to there becoming Oil soaked , the oil will gather dust dirt and thus Insulating ( Retaining Heat) i and this Causes them to Over heat and Fail , in short Burning them out. I say this Because of your Mention of it as a symptom. you must first Determine if it is getting spark ,have someone Crank Engine over While you are Holding the Spark plug wire 1/4 inch away from coil tower (TERMINAL) do this to all 6 if no spark at any of them ,that coil could be bad (Most Likley), If all Have NO SPARK then it is One of the fallowing,,

  1. Cam Sensor
  2. Crank Sensor
  3. Ignition control module
If Control module is wet with Oil most likely needs replaced some Parts stores can test coil and Modules.

NOW if you have Spark on All 6 Cylinders Check for fuel delivery, Do this at the shrader Valve on the fuel rail,(LOOKS LIKE AIR FILL VALVE ON WHEELS) Simply remove cap turn key on for 5 seconds then turn it OFF Depress the Stem at shrader valve If you get a Good SPRAY of FUEL upon doing this 3-4 times then you have Fuel Pressure !!!!WARNING !!! Test Equipment is Recommended for all Procedures but their certain steps to take if you don't have a DIGITAL VOLT METER or Fuel Pressure tester. I Hope this helps you with your Diagnosis od the problem. Have A Good Day

Check engine light on. 4 cylinder. Light flashes on acceleration. Sometimes idles rough. Computer scan reads random misfire and #2 & #3 misfiring. Added fuel injector cleaner but no help yet. Cleared...


There are three kinds of gasoline engine misfire scenarios, first there is the "under load" misfire and there is the "at engine idle" misfire, and finally there is misfire continuously. All engine misfires exist because one of three things has occurred. First, a cylinder has lost compression, a cylinder needs a certain amount of compression to operate correctly. Second, the ignition system has failed or is failing intermittently, spark is needed at the time of compression to ignite the fuel air mixture. Third, the fuel air mixture is incorrect, proper mixture is needed for the ignition system to ignite fuel properly. If any of these conditions occur in the engine, the engine will misfire.
1. Low or no compression can be caused by

a. burned or leaking intake or exhaust valves
b. worn or broken piston or piston rings
c. worn out camshaft
d. wrong weight motor oil was installed holding the cam followers from adjusting
e. broken valve spring
f. failed head gasket.
2. Ignition system has failed or is failing
a. spark plug has fouled or is worn out
b. ignition coil
has failed
c. spark plug wires have shorted
e. engine control module coil driver has failed
3. Fuel/Air Mixture is incorrect
a. vacuum leak at the intake manifold
b. fuel injector has failed
c. EGR valve is stuck open
d. mass air flow sensor has failed
e. oxygen sensor has failed
f. air intake boot is cracked

common problems:
1. fuel injector has failed or is failing
2. spark plug wire has shorted
3. spark plug is worn out or is cracked
4. ignition coil has failed is failing

Testing a coil on the car is pretty easy. No special tools are required. Just remember to be careful, the amount of electricity generated by your ignition system can be dangerous. If your coil is already off the car, or if you would like a more specific data-driven test, you can bench test your coil. To set up the test, remove one spark plug wire from its plug, then remove the spark plug using a spark plug socket. Next put the spark plug back into the spark plug wire. Be careful not to let anything drop into the empty spark plug hole -- very bad.
