Question about 1994 Chevrolet K1500

My 94 chevy 1500 may or may not shift into drive

My 94 chevy 1500 had the AT rebuilt for $1200, lasted 2 years. Now it may shift in drive and move,or not. Same with reverse.
I can go back and forth in my driveway a couple of times then it won't move. Will it need another overhaul?

It's been leaking but I kept up the fluid level. When you say it may need a kit, is that something a non- transmission expert could handle?

I would not attempt a transmission repair if you have never done one. You could drop the drain pan and examine the filter, put I would take it to a reliable auto center for a transmission flush, filter, and re-fill.

If fluid level in trans is ok it sounds like clutches in tranny or internal pressures are going bad.

Wont shift into drive but first second and reverse gears work

Sounds like you broke one of the one way clutches it the transmission. The transmission will need rebuilt or replaced. If you want to drive the truck, Take off with the shifter in 1. When you reach about 12 move it to 2, when you reach about 27 shift to drive, when you reach about 45 shift to overdrive.

1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Transmission Shifts Slow

Have you changed the fluid and filter every 2 yrs or 36k miles?
Are you using atf+4 only?
If all the above are a yes then check the throttle cable to the transmission as it should be adjusted to move at exactly the same as the throttle and it they are out of adjustment the transmission will not shift at the correct time and wil eventually cause early failure, also after a rebuild the tranny has to be reflashed by a dealer
