Question about 1997 Chevrolet K1500

Silverado 5.7 Idles high at cold start. Starts hard when warm. Kills when put in drive when warm most times.Pops and dies at times. Have checked fuel and battery posts. Also has a vacume elbow with no hose coming off of a small black juntion with an electrical wire.

I would try to block off that connection where the elbow is and see how it runs. If it runs alot better find where the hoes came of and plug it in with a new hose or the one that fell off.

Probably carb? Automatic choke not working? Remove air filter and spray carb with cleaner, Make sure all parts move freely. With engine cold, check automatic choke position. Start and check function as it warms up.

Hard to start when warmed up


It sounds like you are on the right path here,but I would take the truck back to perform the fuel pressure test again and this time let the truck sit for 20-30 minutes with the fuel pressure guage on it and look for how much the pressure drops in that amount of time.The pressure should not drop over 5-10 psi in the 30 minutes or so. If it does then I would suspect the pressure loss to be at the fuel injector (CFI) if this truck is a vortec equipped 4.3L. The regulator is internal of the upper intake plenum and you will have to remove the upper intake plenum to inspect it. If, when you get the upper intake plenum off, you find residual fuel around the regulator or any of the hoses or poppet injectors replace as necessary. This is a very common problem for these vehicles with high mileage. Parts are available at the local auto parts store.

replace your ignition coil. it will be on the right side of the engine compartment. it has been a while but there is only a few small bolts to remove and of course the center spark plug boot and wire harness un hook. ... Enjoy driving the your jeep again when warm.
