It could be a faulty fuel injector, try running a fuel injector cleaner through your fuel system. At worst the poppet nozzle has gone bad and will need to be replaced, you can buy the poppet nozzle it self individually at Auto Zone or buy upgrade MFI system which is much better and less pron to fuel leaking room a cracked poppet line or nozzle which will cause what you have described.

NO the 1996-1998: Sierra; 8 Cyl 5.7L; "GAS, FI, VIN R" has a SCPI FUEL INJECTOR system, If you don't have that system then your have a 1993 to 1995 V8 engine and running a no Vortec with the Throttle body set up. Post me back on what year your Sierra is and if your not sure what's the 8th digit on your Vin number. R you have the Vortec V8 and the engine has the SCPI fuel injector system and if you have Z then you have a Throttle body. Good luck and let me know what engine you have, be gladd to help you get your engine running 100%

You welcome, you don't have the Multi port in your truck. But there is the upgrade to replace the SCPI injection in there now. It's like a multi port in a way but there is no fuel injector at the end of the poppet line, just a valve which is common to go bad or carbon up. That is why GM started make the multi port again in 1999 for your truck, the main difference is there is a fuel injector at the end of the poppet line instead which is more reliable. Good luck and hope it's a simple bad plug instead of a bad poppet line. Keep me posted, would like to know your truck is running 100% again soon.

I had a similar problem with a vortec. cause was faulty intake gaskets. The plastic gaskets sag in the middle over time and allow air between the intake and head. Felpro makes a steel/rubber replacement that is much better. hope that works for you.

Running rich

Hi Justin
you seems that you have a good idea about engines and injection systems, lets say that the computer see's rich exhaust and pulls back fuel mixture. creating misfire. why the engine is misfiring on one cylinder only??
my advice to you
1 search for a vacuum leak corresponding to the misfiring cylinder, like a manifold gasket or injector seal.
2, do a compression test for all cylinders, probably you have a burnet valve.
Good luck and let me know how it goes.

2003 freeland code p1319 , misfire code po301,po302,po303,po304, misfire at idel, high speed drive fine,

OBDII those codes generally mean misfire.

P0300 multiple missfire
P0301 missfire cyl 1
P0302 missifre cyl 2
ect.

Ensure you have the proper spark plugs. Check the coil boots/wires, look for burn marks. Anything beyond that you may have to take it back to the shop.
You are misfiring on all 4 cylinders and it is not spark plugs. Those misfires if not addressed can cause serious engine and/or cat converter damage. There are lots of things that could be causing it and most of them need to be checked out at a shop - unless you want to invest several thousand dollars in the appropriate equipment and training.

301 & 306 are cylinder #1 and #6 misfire. Your spark plug wires are not in the proper firing order in relation to the correct cylinder and distributor locations.

These are misfire codes. This means that your vehicle is missing. The 300 is a random misfire and the 305 is for cylinder 5,and the 306 is for cylinder number 6.Check the plugs if they are good then you could have bad coils. They are top of the plugs.Hope this helps.Good luck.

I have a 96 chevy blazer with a 4.3 vortec rough

Do a compression test on all of your cylinders when it is cold. Backfiring is a sign of a worn valve seat allowing mixed fuel and air (lit by spark) to be forced back into the intake. You will probably see compression loss on one or more cylinders.

Also... there is a chance that the EGR valve is not totally seated when the engine is cold with just a small blow by. The EGR valve seats coke up over time with black gunk.

My 96 chevy blazer has a code ''random 4 misfire'' only misses when in park or idleing at a light. is this and injector issue?

my 96 blazer would have random missfires.... sometimes more than one cylinder at a time... there are a few things to try.... 96 vortecs still used distributor caps... but they had such a high intensity spark that they were well noted for frying distributor caps and ignition coils... i would start there... also a few times i had to replace the crankshaft timing sensor.... it could be something as small as a spark plug wire... i would start with the ignition before spending money to check the fuel system
