I need advice ASAP! My son bought a 2006 Envoy on Tuesday from a private party. We had it looked at by 2 different mechanics. The engine blew on Wednesday. Any ideas to help get money back?

You would have to sue in small claims court and you would have to prove that the seller knew that it was defective and did not disclose that at the time of sell. Most used cars are deemed by law to be where is as is and buyer beware.

Car starts runs and drives but stops driving if I wait 30 mins car will start and drive again

I think it is the ECU (Electronic Computer Module) that had a glitch in it. If it happens again try to remove the battery negative cable for a few minutes then reconnecting it again. If it starts, it just re-programmed itself. Make sure everything is off when you do this. Radio, heater, everything.

Computer upgrade? It sounds to me like you are trying to mess with things that should not be messed with. There are several computers in your vehicle (your radio also includes one). They are all programed for the vehicle, and share data with one another over the data communication lines throughout the vehicle. The vehicle manufacturers spend BILLIONS on research and development in order to make all these things work together smoothly, with as few problems as possible.

If somebody comes in a changes the computer system with aftermarket "upgrades", they are trusting the aftermarket (upgrade) manufacturer to know more about the vehicle and how everything works, than the manufacturer that built the vehicle. Any mechanic claiming to know how to make these upgrades work properly with the rest of the vehicle's computer network is also claiming to have knowledge equal to or greater than the original vehicle manufacturer. Any car owner that believes this to be true, and authorizes such modifications to be made to his/her vehicle, deserves the types of problems you are now experiencing.

you can most likely buy the valve body but then it has to be fitted to the transmission, after that has been done you don't know if there are any other problems with the vehicle I would be a little wary to go down that path myself, after you have bought the vehicle it becomes your problem......hope this helps........cheers.

I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY CAVALIER 84,675.00MILES . THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND HAS BEEN CHECKED BY A MECHANIC SEVERAL TIMES. I REPLACED THE GAS CAP. THE CODES KEEP COMING UP A READING OF P4400. ...

P0440 is a large evap leak, so it should be pretty obviuos. first check if the vent valve is closing. then check when the purge valve is closed that its not leaking. He needs to COMMAND the vent valve closed and then smoke it. He should be able to command purge and close the vent valve, then turn off the purge and watch the vacuum level to know if its fixed or not.

My emergeny brake will not hold. I have already spent $150.00 and I still have a problem with my brake holding. The mechanic says that I need new emergency brakes, but he did not even look at the breaks. I...

The parking brake can be "adjusted" from either inside the vehicle or underneath, although adjusting the parking brake AT the brake itself is the correct way to adjust the brakes themselves. The proper procedure would be to adjust the actual brakes, then to test at the pedal or handle (depending upon which vehicle you have). If the handle or pedal has too much "freeplay", THEN the cable or handle/pedal will need to be adjusted.

If you do not use your parking brake on a regular basis, the brake components will usually build rust (if it is a "drum-type" parking brake). This also can prevent the brake from holding properly.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to determine if your mechanic is taking advantage of you without knowing exactly what was done to your vehicle, but I would say if you are not satisfied with your current mechanic, go to a few places and get the parking brake "checked." Ask other mechanics their opinion- after they have inspected the parking brake, do the brakes need service or not? What can be done to improve the parking brake's performance?

One last note, some technicians don't realize that new parking brakes need to be broken in, and any small amount of grease or oil can negatively affect the operation. If you DO wind up needing brakes, try to use your parking brake as often as possible to keep everything working smoothly.

Check and make sure the battery is good, have it load checked, then check the battery connections to make sure they are clean and shiny. No grey or black residue on the battery connection,or the battery terminals, where they go on the battery, this will act as a insulator, and the battery will not get charged up enough,or put out enough amps to crank the vehicle,if it still does this ,with all this checked and corrected, then the starer is defective, replace the defective starter with a new one.
