SOURCE: radio display doesnt light up
I had the same problem too. Eventually ended up at www.shareamemory.com. You can either purchase instructions on how to repair it yourself or purchase a reconditioned board. I attempted to fix it myself and realized that I can't solder. So I purchased a board and have a had a brightly lit display for at least two years. I hope this works for you

Before you go changing out the starter check for a burnt out fusible link going to the starter it will look like a wire but acts as a fuse and they burn in two just like a fuse. The symptoms you just describe are those of a burnt fusible link.

These display units are notorious for going bad. You can get a new one at the dealership for $350 (!!!), grab one from a wrecker, or I offer a repair solution. Check out www.autoclockrepair.com I have removal instructions and info there. Please let me know if I can be of further help, thanks!
