The smell usually is from the engine running rich or one of the pollution valves sticking

P1443 code problem. How do I fix this?

P1446 - EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve Close
EVAP canister vent control valve remains closed under specified driving conditions.

This solenoid valve responds to signals from the ECM. When the ECM sends an ON signal, the coil in the solenoid valve is energized. A plunger will then move to seal the canister vent. The ability to seal the vent is necessary for the on board diagnosis of other evaporative emission control system components.

This solenoid valve is used only for diagnosis, and usually remains opened. When the vent is closed, under normal purge conditions, the evaporative emission control system is depressurized and allows EVAP Control System (Small Leak) diagnosis.

The EVAP canister vent control valve is located on the EVAP canister and is used to seal the canister vent.

Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

About the possible causes that your must solved:
- EVAP control system pressure sensor and the circuit
- Blocked rubber tube to EVAP canister vent control valve
- EVAP canister vent control valve
- Water separator
- EVAP canister is saturated with water

Hope this helps.

Extreme fuel smell coming from engine, no leaks underneathe the 2002 Ford Taurus. What could be leaking. Already replaced vapor canister.

if you can not find a fuel leak under hood, then check for a bad fuel pressure regulator. if it goes bad it will emit gas fumes under hood. is the check engine light on!! if so it may be the regulator or another leak. also check the evap system, could be a bad or broken hose ( underhood ). check all fuel lines from front to back.

Were ie the evap purge folw falt at on the car

I would say the evap purge flow fault is caused by something under the hood, where the evap. purge solenoid or canister is located, or the tubes leading to it from the gas tank (return lines).

CAN YOUR CAR CATCH ON FIR DUE TO EVAP CANISTER

No the evap canister is on the wheel well or the side of the tank. It is a charcole filled canister that handles the evaporation of gas coming through the hoses off the tank. your smelling gas from somewhere else. You need to replace the evap canister.

Strong smell of raw gas in car when not used for a few days. Not present if car used daily. Cause?

There is a carbon fuel canister for the evap system. I am not sure if yours has a changeable filter in it or not. it should be located front of driver fender under hood with 3-4 vacuum lines attached. If you can replace the filter the bottom of canister will remove exposing filter. If not buy the whole canister.

2000 ford taurus gas tank has what appears to be a fitting on the top right rear that has hoses attached. there are stains and gas smell coming from this area. my repair manual mentions a plastic push...

The Evaporative Emission Control System monitors the fuel vapor flow between the engine intake manifold and the EVAP canister. The system failure occurs when a leak or blockage between the intake manifold, the EVAP canister purge valve and the EVAP canister is detected by the PCM.

Code P1443 Possible Causes:

- Pinched, blocked or plugged fuel vapor tubes/hoses (except between fuel tank and EVAP canister)

- Damaged EVAP canister

- Disconnected, cracked or cut fuel vapor tubes/hoses (except between fuel tank and EVAP canister)

- Damaged EVAP canister purge valve

Notes: Check for audible vacuum noise in the engine compartment or significant fuel odor in the engine compartment or near the EVAP canister.

On my '98 4x4, the cannister purge valve is located under the hood, mounted on the driver's side fender.

The EVAP cannister itself is located underneath the truck, in back, between the spare tire and the truck bed (have to remove the spare to get at it).

If it were me I would hold off on replacing parts...I'd drive around some more first, making sure that I don't overfill the gas tank or run it dry and making sure I replace the gas cap properly, etc. If the code returns, then its time to think repairs.
