Mcdevito75 here, I haven"t heard of any real issues with the cooling system on 19196 Audi, Check with any Audi dealership for reported problems in this area, Or check with your local repair shop for any information.

It is common to see white exhaust smoke when first starting a car, especially on cooler days. This is generally steam caused by condensation. As the engine warms up and the condensation dissipates the white exhaust smoke (steam) is no longer seen. If excessive white exhaust smoke is present well after the engine warms up, it is necessary to have the car inspected for possible internal coolant leaks. Indicators of an internal coolant leak include billowing white exhaust smoke accompanied by a sweet odor or a low coolant reservoir level. An internal coolant leak can also contaminate the engine oil giving it a frothy, milky appearance. Even small amounts of coolant entering the combustion chamber will produce white exhaust smoke. One of the main causes of white exhaust smoke and coolant loss is a cracked or warped cylinder head, a cracked engine block, or head gasket failure caused by overheating. A cracked head may allow coolant to leak into one or more cylinders or into the combustion chamber of the engine. Dirty coolant, a poorly maintained cooling system, a low coolant level, or a non-functioning cooling fan can cause engine overheating. In addition, engine wear can eventually cause the gaskets to lose their capacity to seal properly allowing internal coolant loss. Intake manifold gasket and head gasket failures are two of the most common sources of internal coolant loss caused by engine wear.
Never remove the radiator cap or coolant reservoir cap while the engine is hot or running as it can cause serious injury; always allow the car to cool down completely first. Checking for a low coolant level in the reservoir is the first step in determining if coolant loss is causing the white exhaust smoke. If the coolant reservoir is at the proper level but excessive white exhaust smoke is present, a cooling system pressure check is required to determine where, if any, coolant leaks are located. THESE LEAKS WILL CAUSE SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE! Have the car inspected immediately.

In most cases, if you are adding coolant and there are no external leaks, the engine is burning the coolant out the exhaust pipe.
The most common cause is a leaking head or intake gasket.

Coolant loss no leak


Check compression. If the leak is internal, then the most common cause is the head gasket. Water (or coolant) leaks internally through the worn head gasket reaching the cylinders where it gets vaporized. Symptoms are coolant fluid level going down, bad performance, loss of compression, overheating, white smoke because of vaporized coolant from exhaust, traces of fuel in coolant reservoir etc.

If head gasket is Ok and there is no overheating, then the leak is external. Check pump, radiator and coolant lines.

Leaking oil front right of engine 323i 2000?

This could be power steering fluid...a common leak on all BMW's or an upper valve cover gasket leak.

The hoses on the power steering are clamped with a ring clamp and the rubber shrinks slightly and fluid leaks out. You can replace all those clamps with conventional Hose Clamps from your parts store. The power steering oil reservoir has a lower hose from it which commonly leaks.

It leaks onto the coolant hose running below it and the coolant hose eventually splits, discharging all the coolant.

If it is the cam cover gasket, this involves a little more work. The gasket is available from you dealer or parts house.

Leaking coolant somewhere below after car is warm and shut off can not find,recently replaced water pump, and it is not the radiator

Does this vehicle have a 3.1 or 3.4L motor. If so they commonly have intake manifold gaskets failures. This leads to coolant leaking, usually at the corners of the intake manifold and in some instances leaking into the oil. Look for signs of coolant leaking at the corners of the intake manifold and check the engine oil for coolant.

1998 expedition coolant leak near the Transmission

IF the coolant leak is on the right side of the engine near the top of the trans,inspect the coolant hoses for the heater core. This is common leak point on the 98 exped. Thankyou Please rate this info

Coolant runs down the frame rail on the passengers side. I do not see any leaks from the radiator, water pump, and radiator hoses. Since the leak is under the coolant reservoir, my quess is something...

First, is the operating temp normal? Have you looked carefully to see if the leak is visible after you turn the engine off after a drive? Have you lost coolant? Have you checked to make sure it is actually coolant and not condensation from the air conditioner (normal)? If you verify coolant (green), then remove the bottle and fill it with water. If it's leaking, common or not, you need to replace it. (generally inexpensive at any scrapyard)

Coolant leaking, engine starts to get hot

it is EXTREMELY common for the intakes of these cars to leak coolant, internally and externally. What i would reccomend to do is to replace the intake manifold with gm's updated version, which fixes the coolant leaking issue. also change the oil, as some of the coolant most likely found its way internally down to the crankcase. this is really the only way to repair this issue, and it is very common.
