Hi, i was starting to type you through the process when i decided to look on the net for a workshop manual or at least the ignition section of the workshop manual.
I didnt actually find a workshop manual but i did come across this site that discusses the work involved and the tools needed in the removal of the ignition on your vehicle, so i go to the bottom of this page you will see a link that says click here, now when you click on that link it will take you to a page that if you scroll down you will see the exact instructions on how to remove the ignition.
Now as far as i can tell this info is an exact copy of the section in the workshop manual so it should tell you in as much detail as possible on how to do the work you want to do.

Let me know if you have any problems with the link all you need to do is scroll down and then you will see the info your looking for.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

My 2005 Chevy silverado 2500HD my key wont turn the ignition on and the steering column isn't locking. Drove fine went to leave and key wont turn.

Could be a bad ignition lock cylinder, or could be the cable that goes from the shift lever to the steering column. If key won't turn at all it's probably the lock cylinder. If it turns forward but not back all the way the probably the cable. Hope that helps.

A common problem is the ignition cylinder and/or the ignition switch. With the buzzing of the relay, i would say all this may be related to the ignition switch. A low voltage supply to any of the circuits that the switch feeds will give strange electrical conditions. If going to replace the ignition switch, then also do the cylinder at the same time. With all things described, sure sounds like the ignition switch. P.S. The locks may be related to the ignition switch problem or not at all. With that said, would suggest looking at the BCM(body control module)It control locks, and also has alot to do with the security system. See picture at bottom of this page of corroded BCM connectors. 4- Passlock Ignition lock
cylinder removed.
Install new cylinder.Try to start- it wont or dies.Leave key on for 10-12 minutes, or until light goes out. Then turn off key for 10 seconds.Turn key to 'on' position for 5 seconds, then turn to start

How do i clear the change engine oil soon message. It's a 2007 silverado.

The "Change Oil" message displayed on your Chevrolet Silverado's gauge cluster is part of the Oil Life Monitoring System, standard on many GM (General Motors) vehicles. The message appears when it's time for an oil-change; the interval is based on your driving habits (for example, it may appear more frequently if you engage in a lot of stop-and-go traffic). Once you change your Chevy's oil, the message will not disappear; the system must be reset. The process is a bit different between Chevy Silverado models.
jQuery('.intro .thumbnail').each(function(i,e){ jQuery(e).find('img').one('error',function(){ jQuery(e).remove(); }); }); Difficulty: Moderately Easy Instructions
    2007 to 2010 Chevrolet Silverado
  1. Step 1 Insert your key and turn the ignition to position "C" (Run/On) without starting the engine.
  2. Step 2 Press the second button from the top on your information center (next to the steering column, car symbol) until "Oil Life" displays on your odometer cluster.
  3. Step 3 Press and hold the "Reset" button on your information center (check mark symbol) until the "Oil Life" display changes to 100 percent.
  4. Step 4 Turn your ignition to position "A" (Lock/Off).
  5. 2002 to 2006 Chevrolet Silverado
  6. Step 1 Insert your key into the ignition, and turn it to position "A" (Run/On) without cranking the engine.
  7. Step 2 Depress the gas pedal three times within five seconds. The "Change Oil" message will begin to flash.
  8. Step 3 Turn the ignition to position "A" (Lock/Off) once the light stops flashing (about 10 seconds).

2005 5.3L silverado wont start

Gm has several anti-theft systems. Nowadays the key does not have to have a chip in it. Your key passes through the Pass-lock system when you place it in the ignition. Hook a battery charger up to your battery. Then turn your key on and leave it sit for 25 - 30 minutes. Try starting your vehicle. If this simple reprogramming process does not fix the problem you will have to take your vehicle to a GM dealership which has a TECH 2 to solve this problem.

you might have to dismantle the key ignition assembly on your steering column. Have you tried getting some channel locks or some pliers to swiftly yank out the key? Is the key bent inside the ignition? If so, you have a problem on your hands and you'll have to remove the assembly and most replace it.
