Question about Ford F-250

1 Answer

Head light switch on my F-250 doesn't turn on the head lights? Parking lights work, interior lights work, instrument panel lights work just no head lights. Owners manual says fuse is integral to the switch. I've removed the switch but see nothing serviceable on it. It does have a small plunger on the top of the switch body. Is that some sort of reset? Thanks

Truck is a 1992. Nothing looks burnt on the switch and it was working prior to starting to remove the dash. I did get the knob off then detached the switch from the dash. That's when I noticed the head lights would not come on. Is there a fuse that I could have blown?

That's a very good point. I know the dimmer is defective and that's on my list to replace. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help I'm sure that's the issue.

1st off the plunger is the releases for the switch control shaft, also the problem is most likely the switch is the following is present, the connector is burned looking and the switch contacts are no shiny but appear to been hot, if this is the case replace the headlight connector and the head light switch, to remove the knob push down on the spring loaded plunger and then remove the large nut that retains the switch to the dash trim plate, let me know, also what is year of truck.

THE HEAD LIGHTS ARE NOT FUSED, THEY ARE ON A BUILT IN CIRCUIT BREAKER, YOU COULD HAVE A DEFECTIVE DIMMER SWITCH, TRY GOING FROM BRIGHT TO DIM HEAD LIGHTS A FEW TIMES, IF NOTHING THEN REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH

Door ajar switch problem more then likely or wiring issue . The BCM - body control module won't turn off interior light , let door lock because it think's the door is open . The door ajar switch is a input to the BCM .

The first thing would be to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Also check with an enhanced scan tool to see if the BCM shows ajar switch data (open or closed ? Do you know about body electronics ?

1994 silverado illumination on instrument panel doesn't work, parking lights and tail lights do not work but headlights and brakelights work fine. All fuses are good. Is this a bad dimmer switch?

No. Dash lights being out could be a bad headlight switch, since the dash lights are routed through the headlight switch, not the dimmer switch. Park and tail lights also controlled by the headlight switch.

you need to replace the light switch. It is shorting in the mechanism itself not the wiring. I had the same issue. Just another GM engineering blunder

Dash and parking lights will not come on, on a 1992 towncar

You must check all of your fuses. It's most likely one of those. Dash lights are also controlled by the intensity knob on either your headlight switch or possible near it. It will dim/brighten your radio lights and interior lights too.

Head Lights go dim, instrument panel goes dim when I turn on my Headlights

Does it go completely black or just dim? Most displays dim when you turn the lights on to make the display darker so its not too bright. GPS and other displays do this. Do you have any problems with any other of the car's electronics?
