What can cause trouble code p0118 engine coolant temp sensor ( high voltage input ) 99 intrepid 2.7 v6

The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor is a variable resistor, that measures the temperature of the engine coolant. The ECT sensor has a signal circuit and a low reference circuit. The engine control module (ECM) supplies 5 volts to the ECT signal circuit and a ground for the ECT low reference circuit. When the ECT is cold, the sensor resistance is high. When the ECT increases, the sensor resistance decreases. With high sensor resistance, the ECM detects a high voltage on the ECT signal circuit. With lower sensor resistance, the ECM detects a lower voltage on the ECT signal circuit. If the ECM detects an excessively high ECT signal voltage, which is a low temperature indication, DTC P0118 sets. You have A bad coolant temp sensor or a wiring problem !

Coolant Temperature Sensor I would take the vehicle back to where it was serviced and try to ask them about what may have gone wrong to cause this problem.
The Intake Air Temperature sensor should also be checked.

The following is the procedure for servicing the coolant temperature sensor: Removal & Installation 3.8L Engine To Remove:
  1. Drain the coolant.
  2. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector. ECT sensor 3.8L gm-04-38-4321.gif

  3. Remove the ECT sensor.
To Install:
  1. Apply thread sealer P/N 12346004 or equivalent to the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor threads.
  2. Install the ECT sensor. Tighten 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
  3. Connect the ECT sensor harness connector.
  4. Fill the cooling system.
5.3L Engine To Remove:
  1. Drain the coolant below the level of the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
  2. Disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector. ECT sensor 5.3L gm-04-53-4322.gif

  3. Remove the ECT sensor from the cylinder head.
To Install:
  1. Clean the threads in the sensor mounting hole.
  2. Apply sealer P/N 13246004 or equivalent to the threads of the sensor.
  3. Install the sensor and tighten 15 ft-lb (20 Nm).
  4. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
  5. Fill the cooling system and check for leaks.

I NEED TO KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND THE SENSOR LOACATE IN THE MASTER CYLINDER BRAKE

Its usually the wire going to the master cylinder. the jug on the upper left hand side of the engine near the windshield. The sensor should be attached to it and it will be the only sensor on the master cylinder with a wire connector going to it.

Code po 115

The code means a Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction. Some of the possible causes.

ECT sensor signal circuit is open or shorted ground
ECT sensor ground circuit is open between sensor and PCM
ECT sensor signal circuit is shorted to VREF or system power
ECT sensor is damaged or has failed
PCM has failed

Testing will need to be done to find out the cause.
