Question about 2002 Oldsmobile Alero
The yellow check engine light is on because ECM (Control Module) detected a fault with your car's system. ECM has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with some of the components it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and your car needs to be looked at. You'll need to get the codes checked from a nearby dealer/mechanic. However, as you are facing surge issue, it can be due to bad plug, bad fuel injector or a bad egr valve.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
