Adding transmission fluid to my 2001 Lincoln LS

Have the car on, in park, emergency brake on. Under the hood, red dip stick. From line to line should be 1qt. This is best done when the cars warm. Add until the 2nd line. Get in your car, hold the brake, slowly put it in reverse, neutral, drive, 3,2,1 then 2,3, drive, neutral, reverse, park. Repeat a couple times to move the oil around, and you're good to go.

I have a 2001 V8 Lincoln LS and have tranny problems. The reverse does not work and the transmission will not shift automatically. If I put it in any gear on the auto side, I can hear it engage but when I...

If you drive it a few days like that ,you will have a $3000 repair bill

instead of a $332.20 Solenoid Trans Pack, I put in my 2004

Any time you have, any trans issues, you stop driving it immediately
You never drive again, until diagnosed and repaired

I used to own a trans repair shop.

You will have to add labor to yours.

I have a 2000 lincoln ls the problem that im having is when im driving d5 the d(drive) becomes an E and whatever gear i put it in it stays an E even in drive its still an E only after i turn the car off...

E=error, the gear indicator has lost a signal from the transmission as to what gear it is in.
when you cycle the key and its ok,means it is a soft code and not a hard code.you need to have it checked on a computer before you cycle the key,

What is wrong when 2001 lincoln ls will go in

The problem is 8 out of 10 the forward gears .the pump or body valve in the bottom of the box are locking up the forward gear drive band at about the same pressure as driving at 40mph so it just locks up and stalls the engine.
If you want to take off the gearbox pan and remove the body valve assy and check out the piston and forward band .. but there isent to much you can do as the experts will have to do the job.
OR get a second hand g/box and fit it your self but make sure that the converter comes out with the box and goes back on the box before refitting .other wise you will damage the g/b/seal fitting the box and it will leak oil ...

Unless you have run over something or something has hit the linkage that you may possibly repair to adjust the gear locations to their proper place on the trans, you must get trans checked out.
