Question about 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

1 Answer

My 2004 santa fe has 65k miles on it. Should it need ALL new breaks and the timing chain replaced as a garage claims? Also, replacing the timing chain costs $2800 according to the garage, and the breaks costs $1700- Does this sound right!? Thank you

I would shop around $2800 sounds way too high!!! $1700 for breaks $425 per wheel you can do way better than that!!! If you have rear drums they last at least 2X front disc, call around you should't pay more than $1000 for 4 wheel disc. You are due for timing belt, you have time to shop around for better price.
Good Luck!

2003 santa fe with 130,000 miles, had timing belt replaced at 60,000 miles. Should it be replaced now at 130 k ?

Your Hyundai's engine is an interference engine, meaning that if the timing belt breaks the engine will suffer major damage. At least a valve job, probably the head being replaced and in the worst case an engine replacement.

The recommended replacement interval for a timing belt is 60k, your already over so I would replace it as soon as feasible.

I have a 2004 Santa Fe with 39000 miles when can I aspect the driving or timing belt to go out

The timing belts must be replaced every 5 years or 50k miles, whatever comes first. The other belts whenever they give signs of slipping, no fixed date.

Does a timing belt have to be changed at 5 years or is it based on milage. I have a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe that only has 25,000 miles. Does the timing belt have to be changed because it is 5 years old?

Usually a timing belt replacement is based on mileage not age. However, I would have the belt visually inspected to make sure it still is in good condition. If the belt breaks it can cause serious engine damage. The inspection should cost you very little as most newer cars has inspection plattes that come off with a few bolts, you could even do it yourself. I would think that you are fine, but better safe then sorry. My hyundai elantra went for 120,000 miles with the same timing belt and is still going today with its new owner.

I have a 02 santa fe . can i go 90,000 be for changing belt.

Carfixer 1 is right. The Hyundai engine is called an interference engine, which means that when the timing belt breaks, it will allow the valves to hit the pistons and you will ruin your engine.

Do yourself a favor and replace the belt at recommended intervals. If you are past the 60k mark, have it done right away and save yourself a lot of grief and expense.

I AM TOLD I NEED TO CHANGE THE TIMING BELT ON MY 2006 4X4 HYUNDAI SANTA FE BECAUSE I'M AT 62,000 MILES AND MY MAINT. BOOK STATES IT SHOULD BE CHANGED AT 50K. IS THIS COSTLY?

$400 to $500 dollars... and the replacement interval is not 50,000 miles.. it's 60,000 (by the way, the reason the belt should be replaced is the fact IT'S GOING TO BREAK.... no doubts!).

When do you replace a timing belt on a 2005 hyundai

YES!! It's always better to replace a timing belt before it breaks. The cost of a timing belt break can become beyond comprehension. Don't try to get around this much-needed maintenance. It's WELL worth the money in the long run, and usually even in the short run.

I have a 2004 hyundai santa fe with 90000 miles. The timing belt has never been changed. How often should it be changed

It needs to be replaced ASAP> This vehicle has an interference engine which means that if the belt breaks the engine will need to be rebuilt/replaced due to the valves making contact with the piston and bending them. The belt should be inspected around every 10k miles, but should be seriously looked into being replaced at least around 80k miles. Also have them check the pulleys and the tensioner. If these are weak and worn out they should be replaced as well, so that you don't have any problems for some time.

2003 Santa fe timing belt change

You can drive it till it breaks of course, that will cost much more then replacing it as maintenance though. I would plan to have it changed much sooner then later as you are already past your recomended service time.
