and what is more important I know how to spell them all
main bearings are the bearings situated in the block that supports the crankshaft
big end bearings are the bearings that run on the crank shaft crank pins and are situated in the connecting rod large(big)ends
Cylinder head or head is fitted at the top of the bore or cylinder in which the piston moves to give compression for the engine operation
all this is found in a basic engine construction book from your library

I was changing the timing chain of a 1998 318 e46 but seem to have lost the timing as it just cranks. how do i identify the tdc?


The time consuming but correct way would be to remove the valve cover so that you can view the number "1" piston and rotate your crank shaft until it is absolutely top dead center..Other than that I would check all the sprk plug wire connections to ensure all connections are as they should be

what are you doing> , buying a bare block?

why not say what is in hand. (fit what? just tranny and mounts or what? , be legal or make EFI happy, or ? all other parts on engine?)

i did a www scan and in 1 second, bam the 4 banger

not the 4 liter.



2.5L gas engine not the diesel of same size.

so...

1984 to 2002 run (all year run lenght) not an answer.

Hi dear40,

The m43 engine should be similar to both the m42 and m44. The cylinder head torque settings are 22ft/lb and 90degree torque angle, and another 90 degree torque angle. Make sure to wait approximately 10minutes before performing the 2nd torque angle.

What's the difference between a blown head gasket and a blown intake gasket?


The head gasket goes between the block and the head, and seals the combustion process, and cooling water, and (if oil is pumped obove the heads to valve components) oil pressure.

Intake gaskets seal between the intake manifold and the head, and seal against intake vacuum, and in many cases, coolant.

A badly blown head gasket will so destroy compression in the cylinder that you can hear uneven cranking as that cylinder comes up on compression, kind of a “whir, whir, WHIR, whir, whir, WHIR, whir” with the capitalized whir being the engine spinning much faster due to no compression holding the starter back.

You will never be able to hear a problem with an intake manifold gasket until the engine actually starts to fire and/or run.

I need the cylinder head torque settings for 1997


1998 Hyundai Lantra "G4GM" engine 1795cc.there are two heads or blocks, one is called the M10, other is the M12, figure out which one you have cause the torque is different for stage one by 5nm........... Dont get confused theres 2 different engines so 2 different torques for stage1---------
heres the full details: Stage 1 - m10 = 30nm / m12 = 35nm-------------------------- -------- Stage 2 - tighten by 60-65 degrees ------------ stage 3 - tighten by 60-65 degrees. no sequence is given in the data book for tightening so go off what you thinks right, it doesn't matter on this engine.

NEED SPECS FOR INSTALLATION OF NEW HEAD GASKET 2003


1. Clean both gasket surfaces of the cylinder block and cylinder head. 2. Verify the identification marks on the cylinder head gasket. 3. Install the gasket so that the surface with the identification mark faces toward the cylinder head. 4. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown below. d2e64d7.gif Cylinder head bolt M10 : 25Nm (250kg.cm, 18lb.ft)+(60°- 65°)+(60°- 65°) M12 : 30Nm (300kg.cm, 22 lb.ft)+(60°- 65°)+(60°- 65°)

Hi I'm looking for cylinder head torque settings for a 1992 BMW 316/318 e36


BMW cylinder torque setting all models

According to my service manual as follows.

Cyl head to engine block (torx e12 M10 bolts)

Stage 1 30nm (22 ft – lb)
Stage 2 + 90 degrees
Stage 3 + 90 degrees

Cyl head to lower timing chain cover 10nm (89in – lb)

The tightening sequence is from inside to outside crossover as normal. Loosening sequence is from outside to inside crossover. Remember to set torque wrench at low setting and work gradually up through the whole sequence until you get the desired torque.
