Question about 2000 Ford Excursion

1 Answer

2000 v10 excursion would crank over but not start and the theft light was blinking. I let it sit for a few a used a second key and it started. Could the original key be bad and caused a problem? I didn't know about the fuel pump switch so never touched it.

Does your keys look different? Some keys require a sensored key to start it up.

2000 Ford excursion v10. New battery but will only start with a jump sometimes. Gauges go "crazy" and light come on. Radio and AC starts to go out. Shut off while driving down road.

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere.
When you get it started, is the alternator charging the battery ?
Do you have 12 or 13 volts at the starter when it will not crank without a jump ?

Excursion does not start consistently

Just had the same problem-- I found that the solinoid that mounts on the right side of the fender next to the battery-- a $25.00 standard solonoid --at auto zone-- worked intermitenly-- now it starts -- 100 Percent of the time-- I just luckily found it by placing a 12 volt probe liight on it and sitting at the key with the hood open and watching --

2000 Ford V10 will not start. Will start with starting fluid.

Fuel filters don't typically clog from a vehicle sitting. My 1st guess would be the fuel pump(motor sitting stationary has made a contact on the armature corrode).Try thumping the fuel tank with a rubber mallet while someone turns the key on to prime the pump(turn to run, wait 5 seconds, shut off, wait 15 seconds, repeat). This might get the pump moving again.

2000 ford excursion v10 driving down the road

Honestly you should send it into the dealer. I don't think guessing will help you. Typically it is a dirty connection into the steering column (behind the ignition key) But diagnostics need to be run and a look at the VSS system (through a good scan tool) is needed to confirm.

After warm up starts to have a dead miss

Depending on the miles and how you keep it serviced, the catalytic converter can have some blockage and the backpressure can cause this. It happened to my excursion.
