Question about 1992 Geo Metro

1992 Geo Metro Hatchback

My boyfriend has a 1992 Geo Metro Hatchback. It has rebuilt engine in it (this is the third rebuilt engine) it has about 50,000 miles on the rebuilt engine. I was just in the vehicle and noticed the oil light came on. There is no users manual in the car and no information as to what type of oil I should add. Is the car safe to drive with the oil light on or is it ok to add oil so I don't blow the engine. Please help! Thanks. -Victoria

O.K,first don't drive the car with that light on unless absolutely neccessary(as in if you need to get somewhere safe or something).Second, yes you can add oil, 5W30,will be fine (does not matter which brand)but you need to make sure you don't add too much.Look for the oil dipstick under the hood to check the level of oil. There will be some kind of mark on the dipstick to show you where the level shhould be, down towards the end tip of the dipstick. There may be 2 dipsticks under the hood,1 for oil and 1 for transmission fluid so make sure yourr looking at the right one.Hope this helps.good luck.

dunno if it'll fix it- but check your pcv valve - 5$ for a new one - also check your egr valve- should be able to move depress it with your finger- if not, carb cleaner is safe to use to clean it up- remove it and clean it. this should help the idle

1995 geo metro 3cylinder 5 speed

sounds to me that the syncros in the trans are worn out. when driving and shifting try to vary the rpms while trying to shift . try to shift it like a semi truck just have to match the engine rpms to the trans input shaft rpm. this is not a cheap fix rebuilt trans or install new syncros in your trans requires the whole trans to be dissambled.
good luck
