On most Toyota cars it is located on the driver side rear of the motor. The easiest way to find it is to follow the large red wire leading from the battery down. The starter will be located at the end of the engine right by the transmission. Most of the time on the firewall side of the engine. Sometimes it is easier to find from the top sometimes the bottom.

Intermittent start problem. no starter action, dash tone X 5 when key turned, battery OK, can hear starter relay and fuel pump.

Locate your starter, now take a small hammer, and tap on it. This should free it up. It sounds like the armature on the starter is sticking. If this keeps happening, you'll have to replace it. May or may not be a one time thing. Lincoln town cars are known for this.

Starter replacement

my solution is for all cars and not specifically for a camry.

remove the positive wire of the battery.
remove all the wires attached to the starter.
take note on where you took them off.
remove all the bolts holding the starter.
remove the starter.

do the reverse on installation.
last thing to do is put back the positive wire of the battery.

tnx 4 using fixya,
