Question about 2000 Cadillac Catera

Open Question

Speakers sound busted and radio reception is terrible

Whenever i am playing my ipod through the tape deck, even at the lowest volume possible my speakers sound like they are busted with any song. But as soon as i turn the radio back on the are fine and i can turn it up as loud as i want with no problem. this is really confusing me and irritates me because i love listening to my music not the radio.
also i dont know if i need to replace the antenna on the car or what but 50% of the time most radio stations are filled with nothing but static. but if i hop in a friends car that station will work fine with the car sitting in the same spot.

The radio in my 1995 jeep grand cherokee plays full volume on the right channel when turned on.

  1. bad radio amp
  2. bad wiring to speakers.
  3. or bad speakers.
the tests are easy, ask.
my guess is the weak side is bad, the load side is ok.
you can turn the volume down on the load side using volumn control
if yes that side is ok, fix weak side.

ask how, but make sure the wiring in all 4 corners are not damage
and at both ends of harness.

No sound

chances are the speakers are already busted or the connecting wires are loosened. speakers are busted if a sudden high volume was induced as this will give a sudden surge of high current. You can dismantle the whole radio and look for a loose wire connecting the speakers terminal.

Is it possible to install a 3.5mm headphone jack input from an ipod directly into the car stereo? I don't want to use an fm transmitter. My '04 Mazda3 comes with the 6-disc cd changer but no tape deck or...

I have a 2003 Mazda MPV that has the stereo that you could add a cassette deck or MD to...I do not have either, but there is a button for it. I found a guy on the internet that made a chip that plugs into the back of the radio and has a 3.5mm jack on it that will play when you push the cassette/md button on the radio. It is great....sounds just like one that came from the factory.

Cannot play ipod on 2000 malibu using tape adapter. malibu has cd player and remote tape deck

Instead use a radio adaptor where you would set you radio to a particular channel. The adaptor emits a signal correspondent to that radio signal and allows you to listen to your iPod.

RADIO SHOWS STATIONS BUT NO SOUND FROM SPEAKERS

if no sound from both speakers check fuse,
if some hissing or humming on full volume then its a fault in oscilator section
if there is no hiss or hum at full volume its a breakage in the wires of speakers, if one speaker is ok its aagain a wire open problem in out put section
open up the speakers and just apply 1.5 volts dc for fraction of second to the speaker leads , if theres crackling the speaker is ok
also see for torn out cones or stuck cone or speaker coil open.

Acura legend radio

Sounds like the speaker is blown - factory speakers are usually pretty cheaply made and not very high quality, so even normal listening volumes can destroy them - you don't have to crank the radio to blow them. If the speaker is on the rear deck, it may be accessible from inside the trunk - take a look there and see if it unbolts.
