The fans work off a relay and a fan switch. The switch for the fans is screwed into the engine. It sounds like the switch is going bad for most engine cooling fans may run 10 minutes after the engine is shut down at the longest

Most electric fan will run after car is shut off when it is hot, to cool the coolant. They shouldn't run for more that 15 min tops. It sound like a timer is malfunctioning.
hope that helps

2004 XC90 Volvo, fan will not turn off, just installed new battery

you mean the engine fan or the interior heater fan ? if the engine fan it must just be a coincedence or the fan was running on before, and you might not have noticed, and if you replaced the battery because it kept going flat the fan running on to long could be the reason ,the engine temp sender may be the fault as fan is designed to run on after engine turned off to cool down components,so i'd get the OBD codes read this will pinpoint the sensor/switch that is at fault, save you time and money,as a temp fix see if you can disconnect the wire to the fan when engine has cooled as the new battery will soon be toast , plug back in when starting engine again being carefull in case the fan cuts in straight away which would also point to temp sender switch, keep me posted if you wish

Temperature gage high cooling fans works sometimes coolant level normal

There are 2 cooling fans one that runs Ono and off Witt he temp of the engine and 1 that runs when you turn on the ac. The fans wiring harness can hook up opposite ways. Meaning that the fans can run backwards if it is hooked up wrong. When the fans are running they need to be pulling air inward towards the engine not blowing out through the front of the car. This is the first thing I would check if it isn't running hot but the temp is above normal!!!

Hello my car is using allot of water and my cooling fan doesnt seem to be working are these problems related

Yes they are likely related. The 1st thing you need done is to have a pressure test run of the cooling system to determine the cause of the coolant loss and to check the cooling system for rust and or a clogged radiator. If you have electric engine cooling fans they need to be tested as well to determine if they are functioning correctly. Any well equipped repair shop can run these tests for about 1 hour labor charge.

Fan runs for hours after car is off

Could be the tempature sensor that turns the fan on, or the fan relay may be sticking.

After I turn the car off, a fan keeps running. It runs from a few seconds to a minute or two. The temperature gauge does not show the engine over heating.

your car does not have to be overheating for this fan to keep going, it just means that it is hotter than the sensors want it to be and keeps the fan going....it is normal

run the car to see if the fan turns on, u can check fan right away by turning on the a/c make sure you have coolant and all coolant hoses are not leaking.

Fan keeps blowing

There is a tempurature sensor that the fan gets a signal from so it knows when to turn the fan on or off. Sounds to me like this sensor went bad is sending false signals to the fan.

Hope this helps

Fan keeps running

It has a bad cooling fan relay. It isn't too easy to replace and it takes approx. 2 hrs to replace. It is located right behind pass or driver side headlight. It is flat and has 4 wires coming out of it. Hope this helps.

Both fans, motor and A/C is not working properly.

hello yafrivera,

does your car's engine is straight to the radiator?. meaning does it has its mechanical fan attached to the water pump of the engine?

if that is the case, then the ac fan that you are reffering to is the auxilliary fan where in it is triggered by the high pressure switch.

that is just normal for that fan to run at 350 psi then turns off at below 200.

that only means that you are low on gas because the normal pressure of the condenser is 250 psi.

if you are under charged, the pressure drops below 200 and cuts the fan, as the fan stops, pressure again shoots to 350 and triggers the fan back on, and so on..

but if the charge is correct, as you turn it on the first time, the pressure shhots to 350, cuts the fan on, pressure drops to 250 at full charge then the fan would no longer stop.

i hope i was able to solve your problem...

pls rate me

tnx
