Sounds like it is low on power steering fluid.. Wen you top off the resivoir the car has to be runing to check the proper fluid level. Oh ya dont use any thing but power steering fluid.

Front end rubbing or grinding noise but goes away

It could be a number of things, but a common problem with this car is rusty pins in the front end.  This is louder when turning.  There was a bulletin issued about it.

Steering wheel and starter locked on my 2002 ford focus

It sounds like when you parked your car, that you over turned your steering wheel to far .. try this .. when you go to start , turn the wheel what ever the direction your tires are facing, it may be a little hard ... hold the wheel in place then turn the ignition ...

let me know if this works for you....

Good luck

Focus GRINDING NOISE during excellaration

I had the same exact problem with my 2003 Focus with 108,000 on it. Making right turns and accelerating was even worse. Had many ideas from differant mechanics saying it was wheel bearing, steering rack, loose heat shields, transmission...ect. Well after having wheel bearing replaced and steering rack replaced, the grinding was still there. It was finally discovered that the noise was coming from a bad motor mount on the right side. Had the dealer replace the motor motor mount and finally!!! the problem was solved. Thank God.

Ball bearing and seal for a 2003 Focus

possibly a wheel beering...to diagnose a wheel beariing, listen closley when making left and right turns...when turning left, weight shifts to front right side, If noise increases, it may be a front right wheel bearing.... vice versa for right turns.
