SOURCE: Struts - Frt & Rear

you will need a good coil spring compressor(you can rent one at your local auto parts store),a good set of hand tools,(an air compressor would make it alot easier). Also you need to be extremely careful the springs are under a lot of pressure and can cause severe injury to your person if not removed properly.Lastly a good manuel that shows the break down and gives step by step instructions would be helpful.

SOURCE: my hood struts on my 1990 bmw 5251 need replaced .easy job ?

No special tools necessary. Just a screwdriver. Takes less than 5 minutes. Have someone hold the hood and do one shock at a time, or put vise grips on the side you are not doing to prevent the hood from falling on you.

SOURCE: 2002 Elantra GT Strut question

I have a chrysler grand Voyager where it has been involved in an accident before I purchased it, I`ve found out that the front offside strut is bent so I need to replace it. I`ve got the manual to me car and found out that It`s quite an easy job on the Chrysler because there are two 21mm bolts that lock the hub carrier and just three 13mm nuts at the top of the tower. I`ve already had them loosened ready for the replacement part. The problem with mine though is as soon as you release the two 21mm bolts, I will lose the camber angle so I`m going to make some measurements before I remove the strut. Why have I told you all this?? I`m wondering if your car will have the same system as regards Camber and Toe In settings. Ian

How to comprese strut on a2000 Buick lesaber

you can take the strut cartridge from the top, without disassembling spring and knuckle, there are there are 3 15 mm bolt on strut 9need to be torqued to 24 LB FEET) then you need special tool to take the strut mount and cover out ,(it is 24 mm bolt that you have to put #50 torx bit in the center to keep strut rod from tuning NEED 59 LB FEET of torque)

,then you take the bumper, mount and the boot out to put the special tool to keep the strut cartridge in place or it will shift side way ,and you have to tow the car to shop to get it done!!!,after that you use special tool to loosen the cartridge cover (NEED 82 LB FEET WHEN PUT BACK)take the strut out, suck the oil with the hand pump out,and put 50CC back,as it needed to help cool down the strut,( when you put new strut in the oil level should cover half of the strut no more) ,and reverse the process after that,

this is the tool you need,

Does a hyundai sonata has shocks or struts?

Your car have struts. The difference is shock is single unit and strut is nomination of shock and spring in one. To replace the strut you need special tool to compress the spring and reliese pressure from the strut.

I need to replace my front struts on my 98 Buick park ave I don't have much money to work with what is the best solution and do I need a special tool to replace them

Hello! The best thing to do is go to a well know junkyard that have good condition items. And you need to look at your car to see if you have tools that you can take them off. Don't forget to ask your friends if they have tools and if they can help you.

How to change my struts

First try to check availability of the "Quick Strut" These are available for some cars and trucks from different manufactures...ie, KYB, Carrera, Monroe, and others...the quick strut is the complete replacement assembly...you just need to mark all locations...unbolt, and insert the replacement quick strut that includes the spring and all bushings, and boots...if the "Quick Strut" is not manufactured for your Acura...you need to consider having the replacement struts installed by a shop...the springs have to be switched over, and special (and dangerous) compression tools are needed to take apart...and reassemble...you can borrow the needed tools from many auto stores...but again, not recomended for safety reasons...you will need to have your alignment checked after replacing the struts...needed adjustments left unchecked will "chew up" tires right before your eyes...Hope this helps.

2002 Envoy six cylinder, needs struts

The manual states that you need to use a special spring compressor (J45400) to compress the spring to remove the strut. I have never done the job on the Envoy so I can't say for sure, but sometimes the manuals state that you need to use a special spring compressor and you are able to use any spring compressor. I would suggest taking a closer look at the strut assembly now as it is on the car and you can usually tell if you need a special compressor. My guess is that you don't, but I may be incorrect. Good luck.

You need a spring compressing tool tool to unload the spring from the strut. Very dangerous, would suggest a shop to do this.
