Question about GMC Sierra 1500

1 Answer

My 2001 GMC sierra 4.3 will idle low and stall once in a while. I can start it 20 times and it be fine, then after a while here and there when i start it, it will get low idle and then die. After a mile or two of driving and it stalling at redlights it will be fine. It is a manual transmission by the way. I have replaced all electrical parts such as plugs wires etc with proper AC DELCO stuff, even did fuel and air filters and did an EGR valve cleaning. What is the problem?

From what i read here you need to clean the throttle body.. Mine started doing this yesterday after the battery went dead.. nothing else changed.

2002 gmc sierra 1500, starts up fine but soon as it starts it idles down and sometimes stalls out if if it doesnt stall the idle comes right back up and sometimes might go back down. after i get the idle...

check for codes. If no codes are stored then maybe the idle air control valve is bad, or the air cleaner clamps are loose.. If the clamps were loose or a vacuum hose fell off you should have a code stored. If the IAC is bad it usually will not set a code.

Stalls at idle no fluxuation in voltage at iac

It is most likely the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve.
The valve is supposed to close when the car is idling and open other wise.

Inspect it / Replace it.

Hope this helps!

Stalling

Possibly faulty ignition module is the problem, stalls when engine is hot when you sit for a while it cools off and runs again until it heats up again, those are usually the symptoms of a bad ignition module and after a while it may give out all together and not run at all, usually if the module is at fault it shuts down the fuel pump so the engine don't load up with fuel, do to when engine continuously cranks over the injectors never stop squirting fuel and flood the engine do to lack of spark which is produced by the module, this could possibly be your problem.
